G35 Questions

I'm looking for a second car and the G35 is one of my options.

I'm leaning towards a 2006/2007 with lower miles but had some questions:

1. Are there any certain items I should look for when buying a used G35 (problem areas, wear areas, etc.)?

2. Are there any specific questions I should ask about like certain parts replaced?

3. Any certain things I should look for when test driving (funky shifting or whatever).

4. Are there any years/models/options that you suggest staying away from?

Additionally what type of gas mileage are you guys seeing with a stock G35?

I'm sure I'll have more quesiotns, thanks in advance!

Josh

17-18 MPG usually 20 if I get all highway..

1. Are there any certain items I should look for when buying a used G35 (problem areas, wear areas, etc.)?
umm.. Light on the clock goes out.. make sure the radio and cd changer works..

2. Are there any specific questions I should ask about like certain parts replaced?
look around under the engine bay and if you see parts with part number stickers on them that means they've been replaced.. good indicator if a car has been in an accident or not

3. Any certain things I should look for when test driving (funky shifting or whatever).
if it is a manual just how smooth it shifts (condition of syncro) will tell you a lot about the previous owners driving habits and maintenance..

if it is auto just drive and and shift it around.. 05+ rev match 03-04s do not rev match.. so if you're test driving an 05+ then make sure the shifts are nice and smooth.

4. Are there any years/models/options that you suggest staying away from?
get an 06-07 for no problems and small interior improvements like aluminum brush ring around the door speakers and bluetooth.. 03-04 have ugly interiors.. 05 oem radio will not save your sound settings -.-' 03-04 have smaller sunglass compartment and doesnt fit anything in there..

upside to 05 is that if you take off your wheels and do not replace the tire sensor you dont get a warning light lol until you drive 75 straight miles or osmething like that.. lol

1) It's a pretty solid car. Yes, there are some horror stories out there but what car doesn't have that? The engine can burn a little oil but I don't see a way of knowing that unless you buy the car. Checking the dipstick wouldn't neccesarily tell you that it is burning oil, but I would do it anyways. If the guy cares about his car it shouldn't be low on oil. I check mine twice a month.

2) make sure the guy has all his receipts. Don't buy the car unless you know exactly what has been done to it.

3) If it's a manual transmission, the main thing people 'new buyers' comment on is the noise. It's a loud transmission, she talks to you. Doesn't mean something is wrong. As long as it shifts nice, revs properly, etc. you're good to go.

4) I would go with +05. It's got the rev-up motor.

5) Gas mileage: Depends how you drive it. When I drive aggresively, I get about 18mpg, normal 22 mpg, conservative 25mpg.

alot of good info already. Every car has its quibbles and issues. and if a car isnt maintained well it will give you more problems then cars that are better taken car of. 05 and up have nicer interiors. 06 and up with rev up motors eat oil. just something to look out for. i have an 04 and i can agree that the sunglasses holder is too small haha. Iv had no other issue though. the only year id stay away from is 03 bc there were transmission issues and if you get a manual youll be replacing 3rd gear sycros at some point. if i had to buy over again id look at an 04 or 05 with a good history.

Wow, haven't been in an '04 but if my '05 sunglass holder is too small, can't imagine what yours is like. Geesh! I wear nothing but Scott and Spy and none of them have ever fit in their haha! How bout those awesome cup holders too? Forget big gulps, I'd be lucky to fit a regular size cup from a McDonalds or something like that.

Our cars come with a "big gulp" holder IN the center console... It's like a addon.. those of you that bought your Gs used might not have gotten it =(

There is also a "trim piece cover" that lets you take off the arm rest cushion for the center console arm rest.. so if you're a frequent big gulp drinker you can simply do that and there you go.. biggest freaken cupholder ever!! =D

(placing your elbow on top of the big gulp lid while driving helps too LOL)

Are you serious, '04 interiors ugly? Not if you keep the trim polished and scratch free and the leather seats treated/clean. Sunglass holder too small, not if you wear kids glasses....lmao That's were I keep my cell, fits perfect. My '04 doesn't use a drop of oil between changes except what I find in her catch can which amounts to 1/4 cup yearly....not bad! If you find a G35 that been taken care of with low mileage and garage kept you should have any problems....SLICK isn't for sale!!
