RB26DETT swap!

Has anyone done an RB26 swap yet? How hard would this be to do?

hard and pointless, oh yeah, and expensive, youd be better off building a vq35 with beefy internals and getting a tt,

Don't be so negative tig488. RB26DETT is a beautiful engine and its a beast. This makes the GTR, GTR. Its the heart of skyline. I think it can hold more power than the vq35, I dont know. Anyways, I saw someone did that for the Z. I saw it in a japanese magazine long time ago.

It would be a pretty cool swap. And to each their own in terms of spending money.

Of course its possible to do, just very expensive. You will have to rewire the entire car. Everything. Nothing electronic will work once your remove the VQ ECU. It might almost be easier to try to make the VQ ECU work with the RB motor. Once you take the ECU out you will lose air bags, gauges, BCM (includes door locks, power windows, alarm, sunroof etc), VDC, etc.....

You will also need to eliminate the drive by wire system and install a throttle body with custom throttle linkage to the gas pedal.

Don't forget probably might have to use another tranny probably from an RB25DET and have to get a custom driveshaft made and blah blah blah....a lot of work but well worth it once you start to mod

marginally worth it at best. The VQ can hold some serious power if its built and tuned right

That's hardly a street car. That's a tube frame dragster with some Z panels slapped on it. I think he means a street car.

Thanks guys. I'm not concerned with how costly it will be, I'm gonna do it myself. I just wanted to know how much custom/modding needed to be done to make it work.

The RB26 is an awesome motor and responds to mods so greatly I think it would be well worth it.

Batlground helped tune my last car.. That 350z sat there for the month I was in Atlanta building my turbo kit. Too bad the guy ran out of money and the car got hauled off somewhere. It was well on it's way but then just ended up not going anywhere.

Doing the RB swap in the G is almost pointless. Just do the math with labor hours alone and final outcome. You basically take everything luxurious out of the car, make it a body and a motor; just buy a 240sx and swap in the RB for speed fix. Leave the G alone.
