K&N Experiences !!

Didn't want to hijack the other thread that related to K&N vs cheap. How many of you have installed brand new K&N filters and have experienced oil residue on the throttle body. How many have installed a new filter and not experienced any problems. From previous research I found that normally residue is most often noticed on the TB after the filter has been cleaned and reoiled. I have a brand new K&N that I would like to install but have hesitated after reading about them causing problems. What's the straight scoop here. Would appreciate responses from actual K&N users.

If the instructions are followed on the K&N cleaning kit you won't have issues with residue. I've been using their filters since the mid '80s and have never had a problem. I can see how someone would have a problem is they over oiled their filter and installed it before it was dry....but that's not following K&N's advice in their instructions!

This really would apply to all oiled filters then as well. It is an issue of people over oiling and not giving it enough time to full dry out. If you are careful and attentive when you are cleaning and reoiling you shouldn't have any problems. If you aren't able to do that, then keep it stock or go with a dry filter.

Is less better? Or is getting the right amount perfectly critical? How long to you guys let it dry?

Thanks guys for your replies. I'm not really concerned about the maintenance re-oiling. There have been a number of people who have stated that their out of the box new K&N caused an oil build up. I'm asking if that is true? I highly doubt it but, just want K&N user confirmation.
Just found this on the other thread, True or false:

Avoid the K&N and buy a apexi filter anyways. When I took apart my plenum/TB and saw the oil from the filter I knew I would never put that garbage on my G again. I never added filter oil either.

But good luck with that ebay filter.

Pretty sure it's true. Oil is oil. It's not going to dry out.

Doesn't matter how long you wait after spraying it, it's still oil. LOL

Well I'll be damned!!! Jibby is back. Did you ever sell that pristine 2006 coupe with 12,000 miles on it. I was so happy when you disappeared from the forum. Guess you haven't scrapped together enough pennies to buy that Lexus. Visited G35's suck the other day...saw that your considering a $65,000 IS-F. Gonna have to sell alot of T-shirts. I know the IS-F was just a joke. There are alot of other cars in that price range that will give you better performance. Lexus has lost it's luster.
