I have the factory rims on my g35 and I want to clean them up they are from 05 and have like brake dust that don't come off how would I clean them and make them look good again?

Unfortunately you are SOL. What you are seeing is a chemical etching that gets through the clear coat on the wheel and discolors the aluminum. The only way to get rid of those dark spots is to have the wheels refinished. Ir's frustrating because you can't feel the spots but you sure can see them.

Sorry I don't have better news for you.

Don't know why, but this was my favorite part to read

Any idea how much refinishing and powder coating would cost? Just a ballpark estimate. I like the OEM rays and would rather not buy new wheels, but I want mine to look a little different.

Refinishing and powder coating on OEM Rays costs roughly $600 for the whole set. If you want fully restored to OEM color it's about $700 for all four wheels. Was just quoted that about a month or two ago. Well worth it, versus the cost of aftermarket.

woa 600 for powdercoating? Are you crazy? You can buy another set from the marketplace for that price. I know socal has some of the cheapest options as low as $100-200 for the set, but it shouldn't be more than $300 or $400 max!

Ive been shopping around and 600 is pretty reasonable and consistant. I was given this quote this week:

One Coat Two Coat Sandblasting
Priceeach) Priceeach) Priceeach)
$75.00 $110.00 $60.00

So basically, $170 a wheel for two coats (better durability and sanding). For 300 to 400 I would question durability and quality. It might appear to look straight but how will it hold up is the question.

Plenty of people rocking wheels powdercoated for those prices in cali/socal with good durability/no probs, guess it is just more area dependent.... wow that sucks $170/wheel I would rather just paint them myself or change rims.

I'll have to look into it. I'd rather spend $600 and get my OEM rays looking pretty than spend double that for some aftermarket wheels. I have an 05 BS coupe. I think a gray powder coat a little darker than OEM would look great.

If you're getting into that price range I would look at the marketplace and buy a new set that is in better condition. Then either sell your old ones or use it for winters or w/e if you live in snow conditions. Would be better for the $$$ unless you are dead set on the darker color.

Check out Tirado Custom Coatings. I'm getting my wheels done by them. They got a website with pics. See if they can get you a price

+1 on that. A decent set of aftermarket rays in the marketplace will set you back 2K. And that is with either no, or worn-out tires. For the same amount I can get a high quality powder coat job and a set of Michelins. It's a no-brainer. Plus there's now worries about having the correct offsets.
