I need a new engine due to bad piston rings. What's the differences between the production dates and between a coupe and sedan engine?
Mines an 04 coupe with a production date prior to 9/03 which all the engines seem to be alot more expensive.
Any input is extremely appreciated

sedan and coupe motors are the same i believe
05-07 manual transmission motors are "rev-up"
03-07 automatics have "non-rev up"
rev-ups have more HP and higher red line but less ft/lb than the "non rev-up", this is achieved by intake/exhaust cam +/- timing
red line makes no difference as with a tune you can make it whatever you want
thats all i got

thanks for the info. everytime i call somewhere they tell me "thats not compatable" if its not a coupe engine with a production date prior to 9/03.Originally Posted by rhampsterwha2

will the other engines bolt right up cause i dont want the shop to run into any complications as unfortunately i am on a budget after just buying the car.
complications as in ecu or wiring harness issues..

Narrow your search to non-revup engines only. As stated before these were equipped in 03-04 5AT/6MT and 05-07 5AT only. For my understanding, any non rev should bolt right up. Are you in a 5AT or 6MT?

im a 6mt.. the problem is that everywhere i search i have 2 searches. between production dates (pre 9/03 and post 10/03) pre 9/03 you can choose between coupe and sedan, while post 10/03 the choices are between rwd and awd. that is with searching online if i call places they ask me the same thing and tell me that nothing else will fit besides a coupe engine produced before 9/03. seems a little strange to me but definately dont want to make another expensive mistake.Originally Posted by Footballmania32
