Considering an 04; what to look for
Considering an 04; what to look for
I'm looking at a 2004 G35x for a winter car. It has 70k on it. So far I've gathered I need to drive it for a day or two and watch oil consumption, and expect to replace brakes often. Is rust a big problem on these cars? I'm in Michigan and the car is a Mich car. Any other trouble areas I should look for? Of course I'll check Carfax etc.

Off the top of my head and what I've noticed so far with common problems are window motors go out (had to replace mine), random squeaking, and driver seat tear on bottom left. Btw I think only the rev-ups have the oil consumption problems. There's also a thread around here that has common problems for g35's.
Also, here's a link to links of everything you need to know lol.

04's don't have an oil consumption problem. Also auto's have less of a chance to have oil consumption for some reason. so you should be safe there. When I bought my 04X I needed to replace the rear main seal but I don't think thats a common problem.

I'd make sure everything is in working order. I haven't really searched but the electronics in my 04 are messed up from what i can tell. I have had to replace my alternator 3 times in a year and a half. Aside from the electronics I have also had to replace valve cover gaskets 2 times. Don't get me wrong, I love my car but these are some of the headaches i have dealt with since i purchased it.
