im seriously considering getting the G. however, one thought crossed my mind and its one most of u hear every year... winter. now this isnt some "best snow tires" or "do i need snow tires" thread... but more of a.. for those of u who live in the northeast, what do u do during winter? i did some logical thinking... i think its fair to say that on average it snows a total of maybe a week out of the whole year. and i dont think that is enough to decide what kinda car u should get (most people say if u live where it snows u automatically need an suv). my parents always have had and always will have an suv, and if need be, i could ask them to bring me to school on the odd days that it snows and school is still open. however, as far as driving during winter in general, could i get by on the regular tires? im not talking snow, just general, winter weather driving. or do i still need snow tires to just drive during winters on day it isnt snowing? as u can see im a total tire noob, and just want to learn as much as possible haha.

 

The answer is...if you want to drive your G in the winter, snow or not you should get snow tires all around. You didn't mention what kind of tires your running but, if your running high performance summer tires...even the freezing temperatures effect their traction. They are just not made for winter driving.

 

I don't own a g... Yet. But I would need to drive it during winter.. I cud probably get away with not driving it during snow but I'd definitely drive during winter weather

 

Also- how long does the process take to change between spring/summer tires and fall/winter tires? ive changed like a flat tire before, but is this any special?

Man.. if that was true, everyone in Canada would drive nothing but SUV's. All you need is snow tires (maybe good all seasons) and common sense..

 

My big question is do i still need snow tires if im probably not going to be doing snow driving? for the days that it snows ill either use my parents suv or just stay home. so do i really need snow tires? or could i get by on the regular tires? or should i just get all seasons for all year round?

 

You can be thug life about it like me. One winter it didn't even snow until on Christmas day and I drove my car with summer performance tires up until that day.

 

Thug life, Dont be a vajina about it and just drive it. Don't listen they want u to dish money out for 1 week of snow. I drive it in St. Louis where it snows freequently with no problems

 

Honestly, I've had some serious problems trying to drive with the OEM summer tires on. Last winter I waited too long to put on my winter tires.. I drove to work while it started to snow, and then I couldn't get my car out of the parking lot afterwords. The car stayed there for 3-4 days until it dried enough for me to get to a tire place.

The year before that I got my car stuck in front of my house.. We had to jack the car up as best as we could to put the rear winter tires on just to be able to get to the tire place (That was when my G was new to me, and I had just ordered some winter tires after finding out how useless the summer ones were).

Previous to the G, my other cars ran all-season tires, which are O.K. . But with the G coming with summer tires, I figures I might as well get a winter set (rather then all-season).

 

again, my big question is do i NEED winter tires if i WONT be driving in snow. meaning.. during winter... no snow.. just cold.. do i need snow tires?

 

just get some all seasons if you are sure you aren't going to be driving in snow, but if you are going to be driving in snow, then def get winter tires.

 

I'd say you don't necessarily need dedicated winter tires without snow, but since the car is new to you, I would be extra careful the first time you take it out if the ground is icy. Putting a lot of power to the rear wheels could cause the back end to slide out if your not careful.

 

dude i drove my g west virginia during the snow in the mountains when i was in college with the stock potenzas it was pretty hard i actually got stuck on i68 and had to be towed to the top of this hill when most drivers were able to drive. that was the only time i had a problem and there was 3 inches of snow. other than that i am from cherry hill new jersey, near philly and i never had a problem in the winters because there isnt many hills you just gotta take' it slow.

 

no, you dont really need, but once the ground starts to get a little bit of coverage....your car will not handle well....my own experience,,,

 

Obvious and most logical answer....NO! You do need all season tires though, high performance tires should not be driven in freezing weather. If you're buying a G in your area chance a very good it will have all season tires....
