New Battery... New Problem

So my battery went dead last week and I had to get a new one. But a day after I install it I get up early morning, start the car and it works great. I go to the store and when I start it again it starst but dies right away, I keep starting it and it keeps dying on me (unless I step on the gas then it will stay running). the next morning same problem, 1st start is fine but after running it and turning it off it does it again. The car is an 04 coupe with 78K miles and the check engine light is not on. Has anyone ever had this problem? or if anyone knows what could be causing this I would really appreciate the help... thanks

Take it back to the place you bought the battery or to a mechanic.
they can test the battery to see if it's bad or if there's a drain on it.
It might be a bad alternator.

Not all new battery's work as intended, take it back and have them check it! This isn't unusual, it's happened to me twice....get a new battery and it's a POS....

Sounds like your alternator is not putting out like it should. Most fuel injections systems need at least 30-40 amps of power. Add AC, lights, etc and if your alternator is iffy, you have a problem. If you have access to a volt meter, check your battery while the car is running, it's should read about 14.1 to 14.7 volts. A charged battery that has been sitting for a couple of hours should read 12.5 to 13.1 volts.

I would check the voltage across the battery, if its not very high its the battery... Otherwise sounds like an alternator problem..

a very simple but problematic issue that I encountered which had similar results was that my terminals simply weren't tightened down all the way.

Double check that both terminals connectors are seated down around the base of the nubs, and tighten the nut so that there is no play on the connector. You'd be surprised how a few microns of tolerance can affect things. :\

Do you have air intake on? check for all vacuum hose for leakage.
I think what happen is the ecu is trying to relearning all of the new air flow and fuel mixture but there are some kind leakage. check out procedures for ecu resest

just checked terminals, they were tight so I tightened them a little more but the problem is still there

Seriously....^....his battery is dead, how did it become an issue with his intake....which he doesn't have? It's one of two things, battery's a POS or his alternator isn't charging the 14 volts required! Now will someone blame his antenna.... Oh, he doesn't have one of those either.

I having the same issue. I change the battery because it couldn't hold its charge. I'm going back to get the battery check again. I am also gonna try to clean the throttle body and reset the ECU/TB.
