when i'm on the freeway cruising at about 75-80 mph and change to manual mode...the guage shows that i am in 4th gear and i suddenly speed up i thought if i shifted to manual mode from regular drive then i would stay in 5th gear and i could then downshift if i decided to...is this right? i had a 99 prelude auto with sportshift but when i switched to manual mode on the freeway it was in its highest gear (4th) and i would have to shift for it go to third...i would thought the G would be the same way

 

yes this is normal, the car automatically downshifts for u when its in 5th and u move to MM, a lot of people actually like this because it gives them that extra power on the freeway just by throwing it into manual mode.
