Squeaking Noise From Rear Axel*****HELP!

I have read on the forum about the rear axel clicking noise that Infiniti issued a recall for. As I understand it, this was only for 03-05 models. I have an 06 coupe that has developed a squeaking (not clicking) noise. At first I thought it was the brakes, but the noise does not occur under breaking. I hear an intermittent squeak at slow speeds (under 10mph) and the noise gets faster as I speed up (makes me thing axel). I cannot hear it at all at speeds above 40-45 mph (frequency could be outside the range of human audibility).

Any ideas what could be causing this? Could it be related to the recall on the older models? If so, would Infiniti fix this free of charge as part of the recall since my car is no longer under warranty?

The best thing to do might be to lift your rear wheels off the ground with a floor jack, support it with jack stands, put it in neutral, and try to rotate your rear tires by hand and see if you can replicate this noise with the vehicle stationary and elevated. It could be coming from the joints on the driveshaft or possibly even from your rear axle shafts. You could also have some rust or other debris rubbing against the brake pads as you drive. Brake pads are not spring loaded or anything, so when you let your foot off the brake pedal... the pads don't pop back away from the rotor, and this can sometimes cause a little bit of brake noise if the pads are slightly touching the rotor. It could also be a wheel bearing.

At least if you lift the vehicle and check it out, you might be able to more accurately isolate the location of the noise and then narrow down the list of potential causes.

Thanks....I figured out what was wrong. It turns out the the "bolt" that releases the rear brakes rusted because the rubber gasket that was supposed to cover it wore out. The brakes were not fully releasing...I was basically driving with my rear brakes engaged.

Had to replace rear pads (plenty of life left but totally destroyed), the damaged calipers, and the rotors. Long story short, after replacing the entire rear brake assembly, the noise is gone and car is working fine.
