I'm confused and I'm probably confusing the guy asking the question. This is what I know for a fact: The 06 coupe had the engine with the OC issues (I believe it was the DE), I had one and it had the OC issue. I dumped it. The 07 sedan has the HR engine. I have one now. The 07 350z has the HR, I have one now.

So are you saying the 07 coupe had the DE engine?

If so, the important question is whether or not the OC issue was remedied in the later models since the issue was already well known in 06 and engines were being replaced under warranty/TSB in 06. And if they had remedied the problem by 07, how can you tell? Is there a serial number range?

Anyway, if I was buying now, I would not touch an 06 or an 07 coupe unless I had solid info that the engine had been replaced or it was a later one with the problem remedied.

 

when youre talking coupes we all have DE motors. G35 coupes never got HR motors. What youre missing is Rev-up/non revup. I have an 05 revup and some slight oil consumption. the non rev ups had less OC issues but still there regardless. in fact, a lotta people on here would rather have the non rev up earlier models, 03-04.

 

So the G35 coupe never got the HR?

Edit: that is correct, in 08 the coupe went to G37.

 

wait I have an auto 06 I should check my oil lol. but I thought only manual ones have the oil burning issue?

 

What I did about the splash shield is just cut a little part out for the plug and filter. If you wanna be really crafty you can make it into a door of sorts that way it still covers but opens when you need it...just an idea
Just take another dipstick reading later that day or the next and then wait another week. You'll notice any significant change by then and if need be to add more because of the catch can.

Bumping old thread because there's some great information here and I may be a new G35 owner in the next week. I already made a post with some questions about buying used 06 g35 A/T before I managed to find this thread (found on google and not with the forum seach =/).

Do the 206 G35's with Automatic Transmissions also suffer from the Oil Consumption issue? I had read it was only the Manual Transmissions that did it?

 

The tsb is for the 6mt rev-up motor. 05-07 6mt coupes and 05/06 6mt sedans.

So fortunately the OC issue doesn't effect the A/T 2006 g35's. So I also need to keep an eye out for timing chain tensioner, and interior electricals/cd player. Anything else I may have missed? If the Transmission has not been flushed in ages, would you advise flushing it or leaving it? I ask before previous vehicles reacted badly if a car got flushed after having the same transmission fluid way past the recommended time.
