Manual Shifting an Auto

anything to worry about when doing this on a constant basis? i like the car so much better around town shifting it that way, i just wonder how it is on the transmission longevity. as well, how are these motors with beating them up in the upper rpm's. i have a completely stock motor 04' coupe.

There is no real harm in manu mode on the car. If you neglect to shift it before the redline the car will automatically shift for you. Shift away my friend.

Our cars can really take a beating. Just stay out of the red and you'll be fine.

Not true on the 05+ trannys. Don't shift by redline and the motor will bounce off the rev limiter, not a good thing if done often.

Same with '04.

I drive mine 90% of the time in manual mode. No issues after 40k miles of operating like this.

With my exhaust I love shifting around 3500 RPMs in each gear listening to the cool sounds...

^ this has to be completley wrong. i have an 04 and i never had the car shift for me no matter what rpm i hit even before my transgo shift kit was installed and befor i chipped it as well. So far i have had no problem downshifting or shifting in any rpm, however just be carefull down shifting from 3rd to 2nd for some reason i get a noise sometimes if i brake and down shift at the same time while downshifting into 2nd so now i just downshift first then brake.

i dont know, I have had 04 for about 3 years now and not once had the car shift for me. I know this to be true on most other shifttronic cars like the eclipse and stuff but i thought since the g is like a sports car it wasnt true for us. Maybe its just mine then idk but there are times i let the car hit redline and bounce by mistake

The trans won't shift for you at all. There is also a slight lag in shifting so if you decide to floor it and shift right before redline upshift at 6200 or so & the shift will actually happen at 6600 for a perfect upshift. I've been driving mines for 50K miles like this and at 100K miles now its still great. Just know that this makes are cars drink gas like crazy. I only use it on the highways, otherwise I wldn't recommend using it.
