Bad day rant..

Morning everyone,

Just a little livid this morning about the car. I needed to rant somewhere, and well this is where I feel I'll find a bit of sympathy. So I'm walking up to the car (03 Coupe) this morning, usual scenario, unlock the car.. The driver side door won't open. Hmm... So I unlock again.. Same thing. Great. After making my way through the passenger side, I manually unlock the driver door. After two milliseconds of trouble shooting, it's obviously the lock actuator. Fan-freaking-tastic. I've already changed the passenger side once. PITA, that is all. I then get along my way, and roll the windows down to enjoy the orgasmic exhaust note and some dubstep (the only non-ranting in this rant).. Fast forward to the arrival at my destination. The brakes begin to squeal.. Yes. THAT squeal. The one that cute little metal wire makes when it's time for new pads squeal. On top of that, new rotors are in order since my grotesque, undersized (Read: POS) 03 brakes eat pads/rotors for breakfast lunch and dinner. Onward with thy rant.. At this point, the passenger side window doesn't want to roll up. FML. Keep in mind, I've already changed this exact motor once. I proceed to give the door a nice.. punch.. if you will. Repeat 3 times.. the window finally gives up and decides it wants to roll up. I then reach into the back seat to grab my things, and realize the so called "leather upholstery" on the side panels.. is peeling off.. ITS PEELING THE F*CK OFF.

OK, I'm done. Sorry for the book. I will leave you guys with a question and a picture.

Question: What's your list of (reoccuring) problems to fix?

Picture: It's a love-hate type relationship

I feel your pain!

Me too w/ the love hate relationship. I've been through the brake thing, the door lock thing plus I have engine misfiring thing too Wanna trade? jk - My wife keeps reminding me the car is 7 years old and is gonna have problems. At times I want to destroy it w/ a sledgehammer, pour gas on it then light the p.o.s. on fire and toast marshmallows off the damn thing. But I love what I've done to it and the stuff is fixable. She also says I have an anger problem but I don't know what she's talking about! Hope your day gets better.

I have 3 of those problems you listed at the moment, with a 4th one building up on the way too.

-Sqealing brakes
-Driver door actuator
-Peeling upholstery
-Passenger window goes up/down slower than the drivers one aka gonna die soon

:/

I really like my 06 6MT coupe. But the problems with power windows and door locks, crappy trim, seatbelts that don't retract and are constantly getting slammed in the door are things that drive me NUTS. I have a friend with a 64 Cadillac with electric windows that work better than the ones on my coupe ever had. The point being, this stuff aint new and it aint rocket science. If power windows and door locks are prone to failure it is due to one thing and one thing only: intentionally poor design for either cost savings or repair revenue. These are THE things that keep Infiniti from being a serious contender against BMW, at least in the popular imagination (since the truth is, everyone I know with a BMW has similar if not worse problems).

Fortunately I bought this car used with high mileage so a lot of this stuff doesn't bother me the way it would if I had paid luxury type dollars on it.

Anyway, my rant is over. And despite these (and countless other annoyances with this car) it is still possibly my favorite car ever. I enjoy driving it every single day. Plus, at nearly 90k miles I'm getting to the point where stuff doesn't bother me as much anymore. So I worry about things less and enjoy the car more. I no longer fuss over all the little dents and dings, the curb rash on the Rays, the squeaks and rattles, etc etc.

And as the car ages more and more I get ever closer to converting it to full time track-day car. At some point I probably won't need those power windows....or even the windows, at all.

Well put. I love my car to death. Heck, its my stress reliever among other things. It just frustrates me when there are costly persistent issues. I understand my car is getting up there in age. But like you mentioned, I've had less expensive non-luxury cars with no such problems like this "luxury" car has. I dont understand why a car that was this innovative and more so priced (when new) to compete with BMW, has so many downfalls. I could understand if the issue was isolated in the early years, but these issues are consistent throughout the entire production years.

The second gen G's seem to have less of this pissy sort of issue. My 07 G35x has much higher trim quality and so far no issues with windows, doors, etc. It did need a new front wheelbearing under warranty. But I bought it uses as well so who knows why the wheel bearing went bad.

The thing is, even though the 07 X is far nicer inside, rides better has more power and is much quieter, my coupe which has the sport suspension and rides like a buckboard is still the one I chose to drive most of the time. It handles and steers so much more responsively than the X.

Agreed. Infiniti really stepped up to the plate when designing the 2nd Gen cars. I'm happy to see and hear that the issues that plauged the 1st Gen cars are almost all sorted out. I'll probably buy another Infiniti in the future, but not to mod like this one. Hoping to have a weekend warrior in the near future!

Just curious what kind of mileage your car has?

Popular imagination and real life. I am not likely to own a BMW outside of warranty, or ever since we're on that topic.

They may have great motors, but their electrical systems are pretty jacked.

Just hit 80k a few days ago. Getting up there, but it's still very reasonable. Heck I bought the car with 35k, so the majority of its mileage has been under my possession.
