Thumbs up New motor going in the G

Hey guys. I am finally going to finish up the G. After tearing down the motor in my 06 coupe 6mt I found it to have shredded a crank bearing... So now. It is getting a new motor. I have been doing my research and I think I'm going to go with the stage 3 VQ35 long block from import parts pro and just call it done... Does anyone else have any suggestions? I want to end up about 650 whp... And have a power plant that can handle it without grenading like the stocker

When you make a thread like this it would be nice if we had more information and pic. You have nothing in your profile or garage, how do we know if or what you're allegedly boosted on? Post pic, show us what's going on so we can share in your experience...understand?

Sorry. I had a full profile before and somehow it got "lost". I work way too much and dont get on here as often as I should. I have an 06. I bought it built a year ago from a guy I met in Tucson AZ. It was something I was looking to get for a long time... here is what is done

Turbonetics full turbo system
Stillen front mount intercooler
Raptor blow off valve
Rare JDM engine cover.
Cusco front and rear strut bars
Spc camber kit
Alexi full exhaust from the motor back
Walsbro high pressure fuel system
high flow injectors
Wilwood brake calipers and oversized rotors
Form and Function suspension
Volk Racing wheels
Defi guages
Defi guage recorder
Turbo Xxcess piggy back
Front Side and Rear body kit
All Emblems shaved
Short throw shifter

Currently boosting 9psi. Running a very mild tune. Motor Dyno'd at 421 hp in Pheonix. I live in colorado. I drove the car for about 2000 miles then the car started to develop a mild tick... then turned into a knock. Finally I have had time to tear it down in my shop and my techs found that I had a rod bearing failure on cyl 5. I was first told it was purely noise from my flywheel and replaced that. Only to find it had no connection. I then authorized a complete teardown on the car and thats when they found the issue... which now leads me to this... so... now you have a little history on the car. I didnt build it so I am just going off of what I am told. But I have all the receipts and all the dyno charts. I really think that it was just nature of the beast. The VQ motor... as far as I have found in research... just doesnt really like boost. And is a natural oil consumer. So. Going with a built block only makes sense... all I am asking for is some input. I want to spend the money in the right places

VK50VE from FX50 - plus turbo.

VK56DE from a Titan - unrestrict, slap on a turbo.

sounds like you've got the funds! Are you opposed to a V8?

I kinda am opposed w going w a v8... Simply because it's not a G... I mean... V8... Turbo... Would be bad! But I love the sound of the v6 and the performance. Plus I see a lot of potential. I mean... If a v8 was the answer... Why does the meanest street car have a twin turbo v6... The Nissan GT-R... my buddy has one and my goal is to kick his ***. I know I will never get him on a launch. But a roll is possible. So I am looking to try to run 14-16 pounds of boost... With the right build... I have the rest of the parts to get it done. His car is a 2011 GT-R... Full exhaust. Cold air. And a Cobb tune... That thing is insane... But I was close to him before I popped my motor... Not to mention I clowned his BMW M6... And it supposedly had 700hp... But we all know we lie about hp like we lie about our ***** length... Lol... All I know is I want to keep the V6...

Hmmm... the V6 is the soul of the G35 I guess... plus a built VQ35DE will avoid having to customize too much (if any) to get it to drop right in.

What did your friend notice after modding his GT-R?? I figured that thing would come unrestricted w a great tune... On second thought i'm sure the exhaust isn't optimized from the factory for fear of decibal levels. And it's tuned to meet emissions (who cares)

LMAO!! (this reminds me) One of my friends was with me when I picked up my G35 - He looked shocked and said "Well, your ***** just grew 3 inches!" I agreed. (we're in our low 20's, so not too many G's in our friend group)

but seriously a turbo VK50VE would be soooo sick - haven't seen one in a G yet

You have the exact same year and setup as me. I have done my research! Here is my plan for the build:

Sound Performance Stage 1 VQ built motor
Calico VQ35 ACL Rod Bearings - coated- will resist oil starvation the main cause of engine failure.

I agree with you a tuned V6 turbo sounds more natural in a car like ours!

The GT-R is stupid fast now. I live in Colorado. So u can't really drive hard here in the winter months. Not really cause of snow. Just cause it's soo cold. Absolutely no gripping 20 degree asphalt. But. The gtr just spins all four. All the time. It's almost un manageable. But enough about that. My G has been a work in progress. And it is close to being done. The new motor is on the way. So I will let you all know how it goes. Should be in and installed in about three days. I'm stoked. The next process is a CF hood and I'm doing a little paint... I will post pics... But not till it is done. I'm glad you guys joined in on the convo. Most of these guys are too serious about their forum status to talk to a noob. Well guess what. Being a noob here means nothing... Cause this noob has a way nicer ride than most of the vets!!! I see posts here about half assing drop kits by taking springs off of other cars... Budget rim jobs... Power modifications that are a joke! Custom painting brake calipers? Haha. Wilwood 8 pistons don't need painted! And springs.... Haha... Mine are off of a...shelf... At a store... Brand new! Lol. F&F coil overs... With the adjustable camber kit so a complete 4 wheel alignment is possible... Sorry about the rant but it is funny. Some people on here get so caught up about how long they have been on here... And then... The nice people don't give a f... They are always offering input and encouragement... Lol. Too bad there isn't a G club here... My street scene is full of Honda ridin homos

well, i'm guilty of putting the weak *** bolt on mods on my car too... not because I believe they are that effective, but because i'm 24 with like 80k in student loan/lawyers/other debt. otherwise I would have something super gnarly. I'm an engineer and cars/motorcycles are just in my blood - I love talking about anything involving them.

Yeah, I lived in Colorado for a month and a half before I graduated and got a job - Had a season pass to Vail, Breck, Keystone, A-bay, and Beaver Creek. Having a G35 where I was would be terrifying!

some cheap mods are effective tho - I put a non rev lower plenum on ($80) MD plenum spacer ($140) and test pipes ($150). I noticed at least $370 worth of improvement.

when I get my Gnar Car, it will be something performance oriented. Really want a GT-R one day

Good luck w your install, and keep us updated!
