I'm so Pissed.. A little Help Please.. Car Won't Start

My daughter came back home from college for Christmas and one of the things I thought I would do for her was to detail her 2006 G35 coupe. Now before anyone does the "gee she is spoiled" thing, she gets great grades, got a full scholarship and grants for everything else and has never given me a minute of trouble. Plus when she becomes a rich doctor I am moving into the garage apartment! lol But she is a little hard on the interior of the "G".

So, after 4 hours of interior detailing, new brakes, painted calipers, Wheels cleaned in and out, changed bulb and an exterior wax she is good to go..... until the car would not start. I had just started it about 30 minutes earlier to check the reverse lights too with no problems. The lights come on, the dash lights up, the key recognition system lights up green and lets me turn the ignition, but the car doesn't start. Nothing. With the headlights on and hit the key there is no dimming either. From surfing for hours all I can come up with is that the vehicle ignition immobilizer didn't like the fact that the battery got weaker from having the door open for so long so it felt like the car was beibg stolen and locked it down.

I've tried jumping it with zero results. I've disconnected the battery, fully charged it and resinstalled it... nothing. (yes I hit the brakes to drain the system without the battery in it.) It just won't start. No good deed goes unpunished. She has class tomorrow and a 4 hour drive to get there and her car is dead in my driveway!! Any ideas?????

This happened to me when I was changing my reverse bulbs and somehow it blew the at fuse while I was checking them. The fuse is located behind the battery and I believe is the third one down on the right. This made the car not recognize it was in "park" and therefore wouldn't start. Before you check this, see if when you turn the key to "on" position, if the "P" is showing on the dash. If its not, that is your problem. Goodluck

Oh also, try unlocking the door with the key. Sometimes that will disable the security feature if that happens to be your problem.

We had tried unlocking the the door with the actual key AND starting it with the actual key. No go.

The right side reverse light has not been working and the bulb looks good but there is no juice going back to the socket, but the driver's side does work. I opened the fuse box and checked all fuses visually and with a tester showing that the curcuit is bridged and the fuses are good... no go.

You said that the fuse box was BEHIND the battery but there is only one thin one in FRONT of the battery. There is no fuse that indicates it is for any lights much less the reverse lights. Is there another fuse box someplace else??

The dash light appears to indicate that the car is not in park because the dash indicater light says "P" with the upshift icon next to it. The shifter IS in park

So are you saying it thinks it is not in park even though it is?

Yes, I THINK that is what is going on. The car thinks it is not in park even though it is. It will not start in neutral either.

Update... neither reverse light works but can't find any bad fuses!

This is the exact problem I had. Like I said, the fuse box is behind the battery. Pull your battery out, take off the fuse box cover and there will be about 30 fuses. Start from the top right and work your way down. I think, like is said, it's the third fuse down. It's the AT fuse or something. But I guarantee you that is the problem. What happened is that your reverse bulb that was out blew the fuse which is tied into your parking sensor on your dash. So your car will not start unless the car recognizes its in park.

Makes total sense, I have 6MT so I haven't seen this problem, but I had it on the highlander I have. That should fix it

Yep There are three Fuse Boxes

1. Driver Foot Well
2. In Front of the Battery
3. Behind the Battery

He doesn't need to remove the battery to get to the fuse box behind it. Just remove the black plastic cowl which covers the battery and the black plastic wiper cowl. I thinks it's only 5 or 6 push pins total that hold them down.

Very true. Also, get a new reverse bulb or it will keep happening. Trust me, I went trough hell with this. Had my car towed and they thought my fuse box was screwed up. Almost spent 800 bucks then figured out it was the fuse lol. I tried asking on here but apparently no one else ever had this problem. Hope I helped you not have the nightmare I did.

OK... If I didn't see it with my own eyes I would not have beleived that ANY engineer at ANY car company would be STUPID enough to design a car that would not run if the reverse light fuse was blown but Infiniti DID!! Replaced the fuse and the car started, Unfriking beleivable!!

Special thanks to MADtotheA for the huge help!!
