Am I in trouble? (Pictures inside)

The other day i was driving through a gas station parking lot, dropping my buddy off at his car. Not even going 10km/hr, i hit a bump, and my undercarriage slammed down on a raised metal lid (the cover they use to refuel the gas station with gas). there was a huge bang and now something hangs down from my car. I cant push it back up and i cant lift the car up to see because my buddy has my jack and hes out of town. The piece is thick metal and is located just behind the center muffler.

sorry for the blurry pics

How much trouble do you think im in guys? Do you think you know whats broken?

thanks

Looks like it caught the cross-member. It comes off with 4-8 bolts (can't remember exactly how many. It's an easy fix to replace it with a new one

I can't believe that's an undercarriage of a G35!!! Damn!

My Tacoma was pretty bad 2 years ago when they did a full frame replacement on it all on Toyota's coin (Frame rust recall.... Awesome deal for me!), but it didn't look as horrendous as that.

Thats a horrible under carriage. If I where you buy somw spray paint for for it when you lift it up there should be no excuse of not cleaning and spraying it with a primer and rust resistant paint

It looks like the underbody diffuser brace damaged. Yes it can be removed, don't have mine installed because of clearence issues.

True...^...looks seriously fugly, unbolt the crossmember if nothing falls off/out you're good to go. No wonder the prices of our rides are more expensive the right/south coast. I've never seen anything look that bad that wasn't in a bone yard...Gary

"theres the dumbest things" (insert facepalm icon)

They make them stick out of the ground so that when it rains, water doesn't collect around the lid, then leak into the spill containment bucket that surrounds the fill pipe.

If it rains hard enough, long enough, water levels in the spill containment bucket can rise high enough to enter the underground storage tank. This, in turn, can contaminate the fuel you're pumping into your car.

It's best to simply pay attention to where one drives. Every gas station has a "tank farm" with "fills". It shouldn't be a big surprise, and no one should be driving around a gas station at a speed that wouldn't allow them to see and avoid them.
