Buying without seeing and delivered to your door

Has anyone ever bought a car sight unseen & had it delivered to their door? Good experience or bad experience. Seems like there are some good deals out there on G35's & G37's. I'm not a opposed to buying a ticket and flying to the nearest airport where the car is and driving the car home. Just curious what some folks have had with this experience?

Not a good idea!! When spending that much money u should inspect it in case someone is trying to cover up flaws..

I've done it. 2nd car I ever bought. Was delivered from Cali to Va. Everything was as the seller described, it just suffered a lot of damage during the transit. I used to work for a moving company, and we would ship a customers car along with their household items and it was just fine. As long as you ship the car inside a container rather than just on a car hauler its ok. Just usually costs a lot more

There are companies that you can have inspect the car for you and they will do a ridiculous inspection of the vehicle and send you pictures of every single angle of the exterior, the engine bay, and the interior, they also send you measured factual information about the car such as tire tread depth measurements, paint thickness measurements on all of the body panels (which tells you if the car was likely in an accident and has had body repainting work), and they'll mention any dents, dings or scratches or things that don't work on the car (such as the horn, wipers, power windows, radio, etc) as well as giving you an overall score on the vehicle.

One of my good friends always uses this one particular company to get a report on cars he buys from all over the US, and the reports are absolutely amazing. They cost like $150 to get, but they're well worth it if it saves you from buying a car that isn't all it was cracked up to be. I forget the exact name of the one he uses, but I feel like it was DataTech, or DataSystems..... something like that. He's bought out numerous leases using that, and also just recently purchase an '09 BMW M6 through them without ever seeing the car, so clearly he trusts them.

Had a great experience buying my first motorcycle sight unseen. Shipped from AL to CO INSIDE and it was perfect. Just as described. From the questions I asked the seller I found a location and a name. From there I was able to google and found out the person was actually pretty high up in NASA. I made sure that EVERYTHING checked out, but I was able to sleep easy after I bought it because I did my research. Do some on the person without them knowing, or just ask them some personal stuff. If I had been screwed I would have plastered that dudes shht all over his workplace, but knowing who he was made me trust him. If everything adds up and nothing seems amiss, go ahead.

Don't do it. I even went out of my way to have it get a 150 point inspection at an Infiniti dealer. On the way back I had to have it towed 300 miles because it was leaking oil. While I had it in the shop they found many things pointing to a supercharger which was uninstalled improperly. There were actually bolts missing on the engine block. Previous seller never mentioned supercharger. Infiniti never noticed 7 huge signs. so i will be out $4,000

Let me know if you find out who the company is.

Yeah my infiniti inspection was $160 and it didnt do ****. Didnt notice 7 things pointing to supercharger that were so so so aftermarket. Then I need new alternators, never mentioned, and they were wayyyy off on the tires and tread life. but the vins and mileage match up

Some good stuff here. I don't try and limit myself getting what I want. I bought my performance boat in OK; (2) custom bikes in MI; toyhauler in AL; my current truck I drive in TN; and my wife in Russia . Just kidding about my wife. I live in OH. Life to me is an adventure and I'm willing to do whatever to save a buck and get what I want.

I've always used the philosophy looks, like a duck, walks like a duck, smells like a duck - it's a duck. I use common sense and seek advice from others. Just thought I'd seek some advice here about the subject I've asked.

I've wanted a G35 for about 4 months now. Getting real close to buying. I'll probably have one within the next 2 months. Really looked over the classifieds here. I have my eye on one in the classifieds now. Just trying to weigh out buying an 06 w/a 6MT stock vs one that has some mods done to it already...

I bought a 1967 Olds delta 88 on ebay and had it shipped and there were a few problems with it. seller tried to hide some things but I got it for such a good price that the flaws didn't matter.

Same thing with my G actually. got it for 5k below book but I didn't know it needed $1200 in work after I got it. Still a great deal and very happy with it so far. just be careful. Doing it again I'd probably look at the car first and have it inspected by a private shop. seems the infiniti dealers miss stuff.....

I found it... it's DataScan Field Services:

http://www.dsfs.com/

I just glanced at their site a bit, and it almost seems like they might cater to off-lease vehicles and other stuff like that such as CPO cars, etc. My buddy uses them all the time though, even for cars that aren't off-lease.

Definitely worth looking into if you plan on buying a car that's too far away to see yourself prior to buying. That being said... I'm not sure if a G35 is rare enough of a car to really require buying it from a distance that's so far away that you can't just drive to it to check out the car. I've bought a somewhat rare motorcycle that was from like 1000 miles away, but I had it inspected by someone i know who lived there and then met the guy halfway when I picked it up. The bike was PERFECT.

If I were you, and you have the luxury of time, I would just wait it out until you find something within 50 to 75 miles of your house that meets your requirements.... and buy that.
