The other day in 6MT Coupe with 136k miles currently, got stuck while downshifting from 3rd to 2nd while going up a hill, clutch stuck halfway and had to physically get my foot under it to unjam it, pure white smoke came from my hood for the few seconds my clutch stuck with that unmistakeable smell.. Happened only once more a day later in a parking lot rolling in neutral shifting to 2nd.. Im thinking its a pressure plate issue since my clutch fluid is clean, any ideas?

 

have you ever changed your clutch before? going 136k with stock clutch in our cars seem improbably, at least imo. i switched mine out at 60, it didnt NEED replacing yet but it was probably worn down pretty far already.

 

you're right its probably your pressure plate, slipping while clutch is fully engaged is never good. but just wondering after those 2 times do you ever slip at all under normal driving? i'm trying to learn more about my sticky clutch as well, but it never slips. mine is probably fluid or master cylinder.

White smoke is never a good thing, you should take it to have it looked at immediately.

 

Before you go nuckingfutts and buy a new clutch this....^....is likely your problem.

I bought the car used a few thousand miles ago from a side dealership and have no maintenance records or any knowledge of when the clutch was last changed.
Oddly those were the only two times it happened (warmer days btw)
my clutch has a lot of bite and have never had issues driving on step hills with traffic,

How do I go about checking my slave cylinder ??


It was under normal driving condition? Unless im misunderstanding your question, sorry..

 

ive read quite a few posts about the clutch pedals sticking. On really hot days if I sit in traffic for awhile sometimes my clutch pedal sticks and i have to pull it up with my foot. It only happened on two occasions but both were on incredibly hot days. no white smoke of any kind on my instances

 

After playing with my clutch pedal adjustment, i am convinced that these problems lie with bad adjustment.

 

Ricky if you ever had a slave cylinder fail you wouldn't be convinced it was just adjustment. I replaced two of them on my last Z where the pedal eventually falls to the floor and you have to pull it up to continue driving, PIA on the freeway!....Gary

 

Yea. I cruised 40 miles with the stereo turned up not shifting the whole way only to get of the Frwy and smell burnt clutch from sticking in half way..

Before the dealer knew about the slave cylinder, they replaced 3 clutch pedals and actually replaced my whole transmission with a brand new one


Get the slave cylinder checked out..

 

Yes i have had slave cylinders fail, my reasons for saying the it was down to bad adjustment still holds, i believe that a lot of slave cylinder failure's are due to just this, especially the G35, because the clutch engagement window is so small (another Nissan design fail) it is very difficult for some to deal with so the adjustment is often played with,either by the owner or the garage trying to improve the feel, and the result is often that there is still residual pressure in the system, which can result in premature clutch wear and master/slave cylinder failure.
