Well I actually have a question for anyone who has installed an engine dampener...My brother over torque the bolt that connects to the timing mech on the engine and snapped the bolt. So now I have a bolt with no head in a place thats very difficult to get to. Anyone encounter this type of problem and offer any solutions. I already tried left handed drill bits and a Bolt extractor with no luck. Just seems to grind away at the bolt.........
How difficult exactly is it to get to?
If you could post a picture of the area, it might help a bit. Normally, in this situation, you would want to soak the hell out of the remainder of the bolt with Seafoam Deep-Creep, which should help loosen it up... then hit it with a torch a few times, and spray it again with Deep-Creep while it's red hot (this sucks the stuff into the small cracks between the bolt and surrounding metal as it rapidly cools), then try to remove the remainder of the bolt with the bolt-extractors or other reverse-threaded extraction tools. Don't try this with PB-Blaster, as PB-Blaster is flammable. PB-Blaster also eats rubber seals, so you need to be careful using it around the engine sometimes.
This doesn't always work, because some situations involve applications where you can't apply heat to them, such as when the part is attached to suspension shocks, fuel lines, or any type of plastic that could melt or catch fire.
If worse comes to worst, you could always drill the bolt out all the way through and see if you can extract it after that... and if you still can't completely drill it out and re-tap the hole with a size or 2 up of a bolt size.
You should thank your brother for attempting to help you in the first place(at least he was kind enough to try), and then work with him and show him that it's always wise to pre-treat any bolts that you plan to take off with some sort of penetrating agent such as PB-Blaster or Deep-Creep, and keep in mind that all bolts come off easier when they are at least warm (not necessarily torch-hot, but at least not freezing cold).
