i use a switch

I have to use a switch to flip the tag up and down...i have it hooked up to my backup lights. this way the plate can only be operated when backup lights are on. i could not figure out how to hook it up so the plate goes down as soon as backup lights comes on and then when you take it out of reverse, it goes back up automatically...so i had to leave it on a switch...if anyone here can figure how to do that...please let me know and i will change my setup.

i have this plate hooked up to a DPDT switch...push it once and tag goes down, push other way and plate goes up...it has an "on off on" switch. does anyone know how i could hook it up to car so when car is in reverse, plate goes down automatically and when out of reverse, plate goes up....is there a relay or something i can use and how do i hook it up..;please help..would love for this to work automatically versus using a switch..please help...

I don't have experience doing something like this, so I can't guess how you've wired this. Give me some more details and I think I can help. What wires are you connecting to the flipper? Lets talk in terms of hot and cold, and on and off. If you have power and a separate control signal running to the flipper, tell me. Then, what's connected to the switch inputs and outputs? You'll need to specify what is running to which switch output (on or off). A drawing would be easy for me to understand, but the circuit should be so simple if you answer my questions, I should be able to help.

you could tap into your actual reverse lights... have it activate a momentarily closed relay letting the power flow to the motor that flips it down... Just brainstorming...

how i installed it...

well we tied the power cable to license plate flipper to reverse lights...then we have 2 other wires hooked up to DPDT switch (momentaty on, off, Momentary on) switch located at front console of car. when we put car in reverse, power comes to license plate flipper, then i hit the switch and plates go down, when still in reverse, i have to hit button again to make plates go back up.
i could not figure out how to get rid of DPDT switch.
any suggestions...so plate goes down automatically when backup lights are on, and goes back up when back reverse lights go off. maybe a relay of some type...
only problem is that license plate flipper needs only momemtary power because if i hold button down too long, the flipper motor is constantly running which will burn out motor if i hold it down too long...so i just need power to go to flipper for few seconds just to lower it down automatically, then power shuts off to license plate flipper, then when reverse lights are off, power goes back to flipper making it go up automatically then cuts power off to it automatically...
please help! any suggestions...
