Question Cracking Spoiler

Hey folks, please excuse the dirty car in the pictures, but I'd like a little direction.

I bought this '04 a few years back and I always had a feeling the spoiler was an aftermarket "OEM Style" piece (not actually OEM). Can anyone confirm this?

The reason I believe it's not OEM is #1 it looks a bit more rounded than some of the other ones I've seen. #2 it's cracking near the base on both sides (See pics). This leaves me with two options. I can but an OEM spoiler to put on (Probably source a used one) or buy a new trunk from a vendor. I prefer the OEM look, but I don't want to buy another OEM spoiler if it's going to crack like this.

Ideas?

To me, when I see a car with a third brake light on the rear deck, and a third break light in the spoiler, thats when you usually know that the spoiler didn't come stock... but I've heard some people saying that their cars came with both lights from the factory, just the rear deck light was disabled. Mine only has the spoiler brake light, and no rear deck brake light.. .. and it confuses me as to why nissan would include both sometimes, so i'm not sure how reliable that information is.

I also have a 04 though, and my spoiler hasn't cracked in the slightest.

i saw a G with 2 third brake light and both are functioning and it looks really weird with two third brake light. Its either the previous owner swapped the trunk or they bought the spoiler and put it on themselves. When i swapped my trunk i took out the third brake light from the back window so i only had one on the spoiler

I thought the same as well on the 3rd brake like in the rear window (another reason why I think the spoiler is aftermarket).

it's looks like the OEM big wing spoiler, for the early models, I know that if it's placed after the original purchase, the techs will disable the window 3rd brake light but not remove it, so if it's OEM which it looks like it might be, it was done after the purchase of the vehicle

Thanks Phil.

I've never actually noticed if the rear window brake light is disabled. That might answer my question.

You think the cause of cracking is from someone over tightening?

yeah, it definitely looks like a stress fracture.... no real way for me to just look at it and identify it as a real OEM spoiler, but it's pretty dang close from the naked eye

that would be my guess. My g didn't come with a spoiler so when I added mine, instead of removing the third light in the rear window, I painted over the light on the spoiler so you can't see it.

I confirmed last night that the 3rd brake light in both the back window and spoiler work, so I think it's safe to say it didn't come from the factory, but was likely installed after the car was purchased (probably by someone other than the selling dealership).

Does anyone have the part number handy? I think I'm going to take it off this weekend to see if an OEM part number is somewhere.
