05 6MT slower?

Is it possible that the 2005 6MT coupe will not be any faster than the 04 but actually accelerate slower? I'm worried about the torque #'s

Check out the S2000's torque #'s and it's HP and rev limit. It runs just about as fast as our cars if driven right.

i think its unlikely that the 05 will accelerate slower and not be faster. no one knows for sure though because no one's dynod or tested the car.

some people think that the car will be faster (top speed) and accelerate faster because even though it has less tq, it has a flatter curve.

im not sure i buy this.. personally I think the car will accelerate slightly less through to 5-6k rpm, then pull slightly harder than the 04 to a 7k rpm redline. Overall in a straight line I would expect the 05 to run 14.0sec on the 1/4 mi, as opposed to, say, 14.2sec for the 2004. I would not expect its speed to be any better at the end of the 1/4mi though. just my guesses...

I'm not sure what this has to do with the comparison of the G -04 to the 05.
If the S2000 had more torque it would unquestionalbly run faster. As well you're comparing a car much lighter than the G.

come'on, its a NEWER car, why would infiniti make it "slower"?

and a lot of times its up to how the car is tuned. For example, 6speed accords can run almost as fast as G35s, but they have way less torque. The advantage of the G35 is u get that sweet feeling when accelerating, doesn't necesarily mean its THAT much faster

Very low torque, high hp, high revving engine. It's proven to work haha. The M3 has less torque then we do...

as far as 04 to 05 comparison, this debate can go on forever until the 05's become available everywhere, and the lucky few get a chance to break their cars in. Besides would Infiniti really make the car slower??? I dont think so, but the difference should be notisable in the 1/4 mile, 0-60 should be about the same IMO.

HP is for bragging rights, TQ is what gets you going.

Also, HP sells cars....TQ wins races.

TQ gets you going, but HP keeps you going. The only way to settle this is for 1/4 times at a track.

HP and Torque are directly related. If you make all your power way up high in the powerband, you'll most likely have a lot more horsepower than torque, if you make power lower in the powerband you'll probably have similar hp/ft.lbs or possibly even more torque. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question622.htm
By looking at the peak figures, you usually will just get an idea of where the car makes its power in the powerband. Doesn't mean one is faster than the other, gearing and weight will be the final factor, but it'll give you an idea of the motor....

With all the internal changes to the 05 6MT motors, they should put down a much more broad powerband and still put hard up top.

The GS430 is supposed to be slightly slower than the GS400.
