Talking is the tire wear and brake wear corrected on the 2005 6mt

first i would like to say hi everyone. i'm looking into buying a g35 6mt. i heard the older ones had real issues with tire and brake wear. i did some searching and couldn't find the answer i was looking for. (not that it isn't there) i'm just having a hard time finding it. and what would you say one of these is going to run me out the door. i'm guess around $33,000. thanks guys and i would like to say those of you who are already driving one of these beauties. i hate you!. just kidding. i'm so jealous.

I have an "old" '03 6MT. No issues with uneven tire wear. That problem seems to have been more prevalent on the 350Z for some reason.

As for the brakes, there is something wrong with mine recently. They stick to the rotors initially after the car sits for more than a day in damp weather, and they make a nasty grinding noise the first few stops. I think its just a rust problem, and not the pads actually worn out (I only have 15k miles), but I'll have the dealer check them out.

The tire wear will most likely not change, it is a rear drive sports coupe, so tire wear will always be an issue, especially if you drive hard! I got 18K on my first set, fronts could have gone a bit further, but I replaced with new wheels!

As far as brakes, I have had NO issues with mine at all and I am pretty hard on brakes in general! I have 27K on the clock, original pads front and rear and there is still tons left! I know they were having wear issues with non brembo coupes, that is probably where you heard that.

Your problem is not the brake system, it is the circumstances. If you leave a car, especially outside, you will get that grind/loud sound the first couple of times you hit the brakes to clean the rotors. Also if it is cold, you will encounter some sticky pistons here and there and again, should clear up in the first moments you drive the car.

I did have the tranny replaced, but it was hassle free with a loaner and they were really cool about the whole thing! No other problems than that!

Pro's:
Fun to drive scale 8 of 10
Good power
great brakes
Comfortable Cabin and seating
decent stereo
like the Nav
Relatively cheap to mod but addictive
lot's of compliments!

Con's (some of this is a bit picky)
Interior rattles
A bit soft suspension stock
No lighted steering wheel
No memory seats
Can't enter nav when moving
No rain sensing wipers (literally my favorite option on my bimmer)
No paid scheduled maintenance (like the bimmer)

For an 05, you will not be paying anything close to $33,000 FYI.

I had a third and fifth gear grinding problem. My buddy with a 350z had the exact same problem and I have heard of some other G's and Z's with the problem as well? They have updated that 6 speed tranny like 3 times now, but heck that is what a warranty is for and it is good for 60K as well!

Break in period is a very controversial topic and quite subjective? I personally think that the first thousand miles is KEY to be nice to the car, keep the revs down, no hard shifting and keep steady RPM's to a minmum. Change the oil the first time at 500 miles no matter what anyone says! Keeping the oil clean and fresh I believe is key to proper breakin and ONLY use petrolium based oil, not even a synthetic mix. Using Synthetic oil too soon has been proven to prevent piston rings from properly seating and cause more blowbye. I will not use synthetic oil until atleast 10K miles on any car and I do not believe that these cars will maximize their HP potential until after that as well! As far as romping on it..................give it 3K!

I have an early build 03 6MT that must have been blessed by the Nissan Gods.
To date I have approx. 15.5K miles.....and absoutly ZERO problems.
No rattles....no squeeks....transmission shifts like butter.....does not even use a drop of oil that I can tell in 3500 miles....even tire wear....etc.
I guess I got a good one!
You can prob pick up a nice 03 - 04 for a good bit under 30K. if you look around.
I drove a BMW 740i for 4 years before buying my G. Talk about a change in style, size and attitude.....

so how power full are these things i have never driven one. i'm going to soon though. i hear the power and acceleration are really good how do they compare to a z just curious because i raced a z in my accord a week or so ago up a hill even i started at around 5,000 rpms in 3rd gear and he wasn't pulling on my as fast as i expected. i mean yeah hands down he beat me but i expected a lot more from him. maybe he was just playing with me. my accord is fast compared to other turners locally. eclipses, integras, civics, mazdas, you know.

Just so happens that my business partner / friend has a 350z and we have played around A LOT! His car get's me by a pinch here and there, but they are REALLY close for all intense and purposes!
