KW V3 vs Tanabe Sustec Pro Z40 Coilovers - which ones?

Posted this in the suspension section but I guess there aren't enough people who look there...

So I originally had my heart set on KW V3 coils until my friend told me about the Tanabe Sustec Pro Z40's and said they were the best.

From what I can see on paper, it appears the Tanabe's are equally if not more adjustable than the KW's.

I want to maintain a somewhat decent ride (I've read that the KWs ride very well).

Has anyone had any experience with either coil over? Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

My goals are to replace my aging stock springs and struts (100K miles old) and improve handling without impacting ride quality too much. I plan to keep keep the suspension on the softer side and firm it up before track days and what not (I know about the rear adjustment issues and plan to drill a hole or something).

I've never heard anything negative about KW coils. My buddy has the V1's and loves the ride!

I will be putting on my HKS Hipermax 3's (non-sport) in the next few weeks so hoping the ride isn't too stiff.

I think the V3's may be overboard for what you are looking for. If its an ocassional track run here and there with mostly street driving I would probably look at V1's or V'2's to save some $$

If you are comparing the performance between the two, I think the KWs will outperform the Tanabes. I think for your needs KW V3s would be overkill, and the Tanabes would be just fine. More adjustability does not always mean it's better by the way. 40 clicks of adjustment simply means there is 40 between full hard and full soft.

I know some Konis for instance do not even click, so theoretically they have ∞ levels of adjustment.

I'm planning to track my car somewhat regularly after I get the coil overs and a tune, and I definitely want the adjustable compression damping so I can soften it up for daily driving then stiffen it up for track days and twisty roads.

I have heard great things about the KW's ride quality and performance - but if someone had experience that the Tanabe's were better, obviously I would get those (I think they are cheaper too).

Looks like I'll just get the KWs.

I would not let someone's opinion on a company be the sole factor on whether or not that's what you purchase. If you are serious about your suspension and plan on tracking the car often, KWs will likely outperform the Tanabes. Good choice!

the z40's are marketed as an ultra premium smooth riding setup w/ride quality being the main selling point over performance. the v3's are marketed as more "hardcore" performance option or at least the hardest core while retaining road manners. there's really no such thing as the "BEST" setup, just the best for what you're gonna be using them for. if you really wanna start tracking your car "regularly" you should take a look at a Truechoice setup>>> http://www.truechoicekoniracingservi...new/index.html
