Hey guys, about a week ago i learned that my car for being an 06 54k miles still had warranty. powertrain warranty. It actually expires on Oct 15th, 2012. So I got really lucky. The problem i have started about a month ago. From what i leaned here on the forum is a blown head gasket. The dealer will repair it for me but I just had 1 question before i take it. Just dont want them 2 make up anything stupid and They dont repair it. Thanks
Should I remove my 5/16 Plenum Spacer? It prob has nothing to do with a head blow gasket but just wana be sure. Thanks

 

As simple as it is to remove, I'd take it off before I dropped the car off.

 

Agreed. I would trade a 45 minute removal of a mod for peace of mind anyday. Don't let a high cost repair job like that even have a chance of being denied by a $200 plenum spacer.

yeah any modifications the dealership sees will **** you.. it really depends how bad of a mood the technician is in... technically any modification to the motor will void the warranty.

 

I had a cracked intake manifold gasket on an S2000 of mine years ago. When I took it back to get the warranty work done, the service department pointed at my 18in aftermarket wheels and said that my car was modified and tried to get out of the work. After realizing how ridiculous that was and a moderately heated argument, they decided to take care of things.

The moral of this story: ANY modification anywhere will make them think they can get out of their obligation. The best thing you can do to make sure the work is done without any rebuff from them is to revert your car back to OEM form as closely as possible.

 

Looks like you have your answer! Remove the spacer, better to be safe than screwed by the stealership. You guys remember the member that had OC issues and the dealership refused to cover because he had a HKS exhaust? Nissan back the dealership on this too.

A grounding kit will not cause a head gasket issue, it should be ok. But when it doubt take it off

 

That's where the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act comes in. There is no correlation at all between the wheels on the car and the intake manifold, other than the fact that the engine spins to wheels to move the car (but changing the wheels will have no effect on this anymore than adding a passenger or luggage to your vehicle).

Despite my answer to the post above, there COULD be some correlation made here because it could be said that the exhaust modified the engines air-fuel ratio which caused damage and thus the oil consumption. Though we all know this is BS and that the computer can adapt to a simple cat-back, there's still some sort of correlation.

However, if there is no correlation like the above (intake manifold and aftermarket wheels), then fight it for sure.
