Intake Plenum Screws CRAP!!!!!

Everything was going great on my SC build when i went to put the plenum back on and torque the bolts down on the lower plenum. Broke 2 off and the torque wrench was set for 40lbs they wanted me to torque to 80lbs. Got them out thank god but wtf is with these screws? What is next i cant torque them down or they just snap. How do you get it tight.

I looked at the other screws and sure enough there are definitely weak spots time for new screws or any advice? I have searched i just really need some help to get this back together and move on.

Those screws should be torqued to 80 in/lbs, my guess is you tried to get to ft/lbs instead.

yeah these take almost no torque at all. If you are torquing them down harder than you could install with a nut driver, thats probably too tight and you are using ft/lbs instead of in/lbs. You wouldn't be the first.

Lesson learned, more isn't better!

Evidently you set your torque wrench incorrectly, most members installing their plenum's can get away with just tightening snug if they don't have the torque wrench. Growing up and working with my Dad his advice was, "Snug is tight enough!"

Yeah dumb mistake wow. Now have to find some new screws from lowes. They want arm and a leg online. Will Just get them snug as I'm not sure my torque wrench goes that low.

Buying hardware at Lowe's or Home Depot isn't a great idea, all they carry is cheap China ****! Locate a quality auto parts store that carries high end screws/bolts and nuts, we all have at least one. A -7 grade bolt/screw should be perfect for your intake....Gary
