Red strap to lower rear seats not working.

Hello all,

I've been doing quite a bit of work on my '03 coupe in recent days trying to get it back in tip top shape. Taken out the six-CD changer to sort out a jam from the previous owner, added new LED's in behind my clock, and numerous other little fixes. Now after finally thinking that I had completed everything, it looks as though I forgot to reconnect the wire to the red strap that is located in between the rear seating for emergency release.

I am looking for someone to please confirm that the cable (see pic) is meant to be attached to the red strap? or to another part of the seat? Anyhow just pulling on the steal ball isn't enough to pop the button up in order to lower the upper part of the seat. Isn't in essence this what the red strap does? Is it just a simple reconnect? if so I'm having trouble remembering where to put the steal ball as I am unable to see where exactly to put it... My hands are having trouble locating the correct place to re-attach the two.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thank you.

if you pull down the top half of the rear seat and pull back the carpet. There is a small area where the ball fits. Once you pull back the carpet, you'll see what i'm talking about. There's only one spot where the ball will fit.

+1, it will be very obvious when you fold back the carpet.

The upper part of the seat is locked in place...Trying to find the spot to hook the steel ball back in place is almost impossible from both inside the car and from the trunk... The gap is far too small to get my hands into. Even after trying from the trunk (Yes, pulling up the carpet) the red strap is located behind a layer of wood. So without me having to go out and buy a dremel to cut a piece out of it... How can I release the upper part of the rear-seat??

i think your over thinking this. Just pull the steel ball on the metal cord with some pliers and it should unlock the top half of the rear seat. once the top half of the rear seat opens up...pull back the carpet on the back side of the top half of the rear seat and thread the cable to the ball point holder.

Your hood latch works the same way...you can look at that to give you a idea of how it works but honestly when you see it, it'll hit you like a train how simple it is.
