My car is finally back! need clutch

06/ 6MT, got the weird grinding sound from transmission, dropped the car to dealership 2 weeks ago, now finally got it fixed by replacing the gearbox. billed ~$2700 to Infiniti as it's still covered by warranty. Picked it up yesterday, all noises are gone.

now I'm thinking to replace the clutch, see a lot of people talking about ACT, is it a good choice?

You still have warranty on an 06? Whats your mileage. I'm scared of something like this happening to me. I'm at 103,000.

As for your question, seems like a good option especially if you can get it done under warranty. Most warranty's I've heard of don't cover clutch though.

To bad you didn't think about the clutch while they were installing the transmission. Had you provided the parts of your choice I'm sure they would have installed them. Yes, you would have paid dealer labor charges. But, it still would not have cost more than you are now going to pay an indy to remove the transmission and install a clutch, flywheel. Clutches are considered a normal wear item.

Right, I didn't think about the clutch when the work started, so I didn't have the parts of my choice. I did ask about the cost of replacing clutch and flywheel, as they carry OEM , they wanted to charge me about $2300 for parts.

Even to go OEM it's always better to order parts from an online source. Infiniti dealers charge full MSRP prices and at least $100 per hour labor. The best thing to do for non warranty work is find a good independent shop that knows Infinitis or a lot of forum members recommend going to a Nissan dealer instead of Infiniti

I had a jwt clutch. It was good, but I have 580hp, so I burnt through it fast. If you have no mods, you should be fine.

I have a brand new and in the box ACT clutch and flywheel combo. I've had it laying around for 3.5 months with intentions to install this winter but I just got laid off. Pm me if you are interested, thanks!

Charles....if it's not broken, don't fix it! This idea has been around for 100 years and it's even more true today due to costs. If your clutch was bad or even close the stealership would have advised you to replace it! Enjoy having your coupe back without issues....Gary

^^This^^

Why are you trying to replace it? I've heard of clutches lasting until 100-120k on these cars...

Thanks Gary for your advice ,the car's been back for couple of weeks and it runs great! I guess I'll think about the clutch later.

Just drive it until it actually needs a clutch. They probably would have tried to charge you the labor for a full clutch job including the labor to remove/replace the transmission even though they were removing it anyway to replace the tranny. Just drive it and find an independent mechanic when it needs a clutch.
