04 G35 coupe 5AT open diff or VLSD?
I have done hours of research on this, and used the search function, and nothing is absolutely conclusive on this topic. So here goes.
I have an 04.5 G35 coupe 5AT. I have the premium package, aero package, and it appears i have the performance tire and wheel package since I have the 7 spoke 18' wheels and titanium color interior center console trim (standard was black). From what I have read, the performance tire and wheel pkg also includes the VLSD on 03-04 5AT coupe models. Otherwise, they had an open diff. No one at the Infiniti dealership I work at can tell me for certain if I have VLSD. My service manager "thinks" I do, but isn't certain. I called a different dealership and the tech said since my trans-axle code doesn't have a V in it, that it does not have the VLSD and is open diff.
But, I can slide the back end out, and in the snow I can dog-track up hills and drift around. I have also read that the open diff 5AT's have a system that will brake the wheel that is spinning to transfer power to the unspinning wheel, therefore allowing you to spin both tires with the open diff.
So...if i have 18' wheels and titanium interior trim, I would assume I have the VLSD unless someone installed the 18's and trim aftermarket...but then the tech tells me my trans axle code doesnt match up to say it has VLSD.
So now i'm coming to you nice folks on G35driver to clarify this for me.
Thanks.

easy way to check jack the back of the car up with the parking brake off and try to spin the rear wheels by hand if they spin and both tires move in opposite directions it is a open diff. if doesn't spin then its a vlsd diff or u can put the car in neutral and see if they both spin the same way if they do that also means its a vlsd.

I have never heard of both tires spinning before on an open diff. I had an open diff on for about a month and the difference between that and an OEM VLSD was night and day. I don't remember trying to go sideways in a U-turn when it was on but it was impossible to slide the rear end out on sharp, curvy roads. It actually made it easier to drive on those types of roads, going WOT at any point during a turn would spin the tire yet the car always remained planted. Oh, and the "peg-leg" was obvious at the track too.

Sharkcityg....after watching your vid it doesn't look like you have an LSD but....what color is your center console? If its black it is most certainly open diff. If it is titanium colored then it is LSD becuz the LSD came in the performance tire/wheel pkg which had a titanium colored center console. Let us know!
