VDC related to TPS?
VDC related to TPS?
There was a thread on something similar to this a while ago but i dont know where it went. But, Since I bought the car, (04 coupe 6mt) I have had something strange happen on 3 occasions. I will be driving, and all of a sudden the VDC and SLIP lights on the dash illuminate. The car doesnt shut off, but it cuts power so aggressively I can floor it in any gear and the car will continue to slow down. Its like theres a glitch and the car thinks its constantly spinning. (if that makes sense).
now, I mentioned this in that other thread hoping someone had heard of it, and nobody really knew without any DTC's or anything. well, it happened again yesterday and I scanned the ECU and the only code I got was for a fault in the throttle postion sensor. said there was either a short in the circuit or a faulty TPS. But today on the way to work the CEL turned itself off and has yet to show itself again. It throws the CEL every time this has happened, then turns off a day later.
Im bringing the car into the dealer for a couple other warranty fixes and im going to have them check the TPS while its there. Anybody have any other suggestions or knowledge on the subject? any information is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Whatever is causing the VDC and TPS warning to come on is putting you in "Limp Mode." I suggest you go to Nissan and find out what the error code is and have it fixed, they'll charge you less than Infiniti....Gary

VDC and the slip light all have to do with traction control. I am thinking it may be one of your ABS sensors. These sensors cannot be picked up by "average"scanners and must be read by a Nissan scanner. I forget the name of the scanner.
When the Crank Sensor is going out, it illuminates these lights - just a thought.
I have an extra ABS sensor if you want to try that.
Please do a little diagnosis before you just send it to the stealer

small update: It's most likely a wheel sensor, just yesterday the lights have been on permanently now, with the addition of the ABS light. obvious tell tale sign... So im going to take care of that and go from there.

didnt notice you are under warranty.. take her to the dealer.
Have you tried doing the Throttle Reset (pedal dance)? That may fix the TB or it may not
Make sure your Crank Sensor is plugged up and not shorted

yea thats the plan. i havent had a lot of opportunity to to a personal inspection on it. its been ~0-15 degrees consistently lately and both stalls of my garage are taken up our other broken cars... lol
try and scan for any latent codes. Last time it happened to me, (albeit it cut power and put me in limp mode) I was getting a code for the Throttle position sensor. But now the car is at the dealership getting taken care of since I still have a buyers warranty on so Im not sure what the problem was yet. Once I get it back I will update this thread with the cause of the problem. I would assume I have a wheel sensor out seeing as my ABS light is also on. As far as the TPS code, not sure what the dealer has found yet.

I had VDC and SLIP come on constantly when I first bought the car, turned out to be loose battery terminals. The day I tightened them a year ago never happened again.
However if ABS is also on, well theres your answer

ill have to double check. honestly I havent even taken the battery space cover off since I bought the car... ha.
But on another note, I spoke with the gent at the dealership I bought the car and they couldnt figure out the problems so they are footing the bill to have the local Infinity dealer take care of it. and also foot the bill for me to rent a super "luxurious" Camry. but hey, I cant complain. Free rental, Free Infinity labor, It is what it is.

Glad to hear you;re getting someone to take care of it. I had this issue happen to me after my clutch was replaced. Bad start and VDC/SLIP every now and then. Check battery terminals they were super loose. Tightened them and all is good.
Good luck!

Thanks, im pretty happy with how well theyre taking care of it. Especially since my warranty technically ended like 2 weeks ago. I just made sure to notify them of all the problems before the warranty was up and they honored it.
BREAKING NEWS!!!11!!!1 not really, but im getting the car back tomorrow. From what I understand, the issue ive been having with the VDC was because of a faulty throttle body. They chased the TPS fault code I was getting when the VDC lights came on and the car went into limp mode and ended up replacing the whole TB assy.
On another note, I was having the common problem of not being able to fully fill up the gas tank. Something to do with the filler neck/pressure release valve? On that issue, the Infinity tech ended up replacing the fuel pump and both sending units. Does that sound like it will fix the problem? I had read that the problem stemmed from the filler neck, and not the sending units. Just hear say though..
