How are the stock 17" tires in the SNOW? Mine 19" stocks SUCK!!
Hi, i have the 2005 G35 c with the 19". They SUCK in the snow. We got hit hard this weekend. The streets are plowed and the streets are not bad. But My 19" SUCK! I COULDN"T even take the car off the driveway!!!!!!!!!!! EVen took off the VDC cause it was cuttin power to teh wheels. It was stuck in the street until someone helped my PUSH it up the driveway . IM thinking about put the OEM 17" on for the winter. HOW ARE THEY IN THE SNOW??? PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.... I NEED TO CHANGE THEM ASAP. THANKS!
Get yourself a set of Blizzak snows on 17" rims. Put a 70# sand tube in the trunk and you're good to go. I live in Western Mass and the car goes like hell in the snow--as good or better than any front wheel drive car I've owned in the past.
i know the feeling. we got 14" here a couple weeks ago and i couldnt get up my driveway on the 18" pilot sports - they're completely useless on snow & ice. i'd recommend buying some cheaper 17" rims (so your 19"s dont get damaged by salt, sand, etc) and buy a set of blizzak lm 25s or dunlop wintersport m3s.
18" OEM Wheels 04.5 G35 - Bizz LM22
Guys,
I live in Philadelphia area and we had 12" of snow. I have the Bizz Lm22 on my stock 18" rims (04 coupe 6mt) and was able to drive through 9 inches with little or no problems. Of course you can still do dounuts if you turn off the traction control and find an empty parking lot!!!!! What fun... 38 years old going on 16

lol, I would highly recommend not trying to drive in the snow using summer performance tires!!
Trust me, you are luckly you didn't make it out of your driveway...because once you reached the first turn on the street, you would have damaged your car for sure.
I have 17" Blizzak LM-22's (mounted on ASA JH3's) and my car drives pretty well in the snow now. Granted, I still take it easy, but I haven't had any problems yet. <knock on wood>

I have the Dunlop Wintersport M3's on 17x7.5 ASA JH3's on my 6MT coupe, and they work quite well in the snow we've received in Philly the last few days. Really good stopping and turning control. I've had to turn off VDC a few times to get going up a hill, but overall they work well in the bad weather.
I've also been really impressed with their dry road performance. They don't feel squirmy at all, and give pretty good handling response. They obviously lack the dry grip and some turn-in response that the Pilot Sports have, but for a winter tire, they are damn good. I highly recommend them.
maybe one of the admins can make a readme/faq thread sticky at the top of the coupe forum with a few entries...
1. get a clear bra NOW!
2. yes that rattle is normal, if it bothers you take it to the dealer
3. yes using your summer tires on the snow/ice will result you running into something. get winter tires or just don't take the g out of the garage.
i'm sure theres more, i just can't think of them at the moment

search this forum with the word snow, and you're bound to fall on one of my threads gathering info on everyone's snow setup. One thing is for sure, I don't understand why folks on this board assume that they can drive their car in the snow with summer tires, that's beyond comprehension. Not only can you not drive your car with summers, you will barely get by with all seasons.
Take it from me, been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Up North here in Canada, we get a LOT of snow, so it was a no brainer. When I bought my car in December 2 years ago, I immediately ripped off those summer tires and slapped on some Pirelli Winter 210s. Decent tires, but the laws of physics kick in. 18 inch tire with a 45 low profile series, and you're only good for a light powder coat of snow. If there is a couple of inches accumulation, you're screwed. Mind you, I don't think those Pirelli's were the top of the line snow tire, so maybe another 18" winter tire could have done better.
I was so frustrated of not making it up my driveway or couldn't move from a stop light, so this year I did things differntly, and gladly so. I bought a set of stock 17s for our coupe off of eBay, and slapped some 55 series Dunlop M3s on there. Noticable difference. This setup is highly recommended.
One last thing, someone mentioned this above, and so did my dealer. Adding a couple bags of sand or salt to add weight to the rear also helps a lot. I haven't tried it yet, but most definitely will....
Store those 19s and those winters, they shouldn't even see the fall or spring season, let alone winter (depending where you live of course).....

Don't drive on the stock tires!!!
I just destroyed my G35 Coupe yesterday by sliding on ice into oncoming traffic and head on collision with a Saturn Ion to the tune of 16k worth of damage.
Don 't even try it!!!
I recommend buying a beater to make it through the weather or pour through threads and find a better snow setup. I speak from sad sad experience!!

I would not have purchased the g if I still lived back in Ohio. The STI would have been my pick. Out here RWD is great all year around.
