Question Manual Transmission Gear Selector Question

Hey all, long time reader, first time poster.

I own an 07 Coupe with a manual transmission. I had a question regarding the gear selector and how it operates in comparison to everyone elses on here.

When I go to select first gear I push the stick to the left and into the left hand "wall" and then forward to get into first, just like you're supposed to be able to do. However, when I'm selecting either fifth or sixth and I attempt to hit the right hand "wall" on the stick it seems to go too far to the right. When pressed fully rightward it seems to move into a notch and you cannot push up into fifth or pull back into sixth. I can press the stick in and select reverse with no problem. Is this typical? Or is there a guard plate or something missing from the top of the gear selector to prevent it from swinging that far right?

Thanks for all your help.

Assuming the 03/04 is the same as your 07, there is a plate underneath the console. Your plate sounds like it may have shifted to the right. This plate has 3 bolts, loosen all three, put your trans in 5th gear, push the plate as far left as you can and tighten.
Once you take it apart you'll understand.

YES! THANK YOU!

That was it! I took off the shift **** and console, removed the rubber boots and found the plate with three bolts you were talking about. I could instantly see that it had shifted slightly to the right. I did what you recommended and it came out perfect! Thank you so much!
