Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

That just proves that there is nothing wrong with American auto workers. Give them a good process to follow, and they'll build you a gem. But the American engineers, well ...

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

Oh don't even go there on American engineering. Its amazing how soon some people forget that SO many consumer products... encluding electronics.. are designed or invented here in the USA. Asian companies have just perfected / copied the designs over the years and added efficiency. But, they aren't better than the USA or Europe when it comes to being innovative.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

One thing that you must consider.....This is a new car, new platform. There are bound to be issues with the first year of a new platform......You assume that risk when purchasing a new car....As the years go by for this platform, the problems will decrease....Car makers are like software creators. Service packs are bound to come out sooner or later...Some of us want the newest and shiniest, some will wait until the bugs are worked out. The car makers, just like the software people don't beta test long enough to solve all of the problems, nor do they get good particpants that report all of the issues, they either plead ignorance or are happy to be driving a kick *** car to look beyond many of the small things.

I am willing to bet that the Alero that you had was not a first year model or a second, Probably a third year on that platform....Generally the older the platform, the fewer the bugs.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

Mine was an early 2000 model, built in 1999 the second year of production.

Yeah, we are enthusiasts. So we take everything to the next level! :-)

It takes passionate people to appreciate cars like the G which evoke emotion! :-)

My whole point is, many American cars are just as good as anyone elses. Heck, I think the worst company right now might be Diamler Chrysler! I have talked to two Mercedees owners, a S55 and a new 2003 E-Class. Both of them stay in the shop longer than on the road.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

I like the clock... add a touch of class. Now if we could get Infiniti to give us a HUD like on the C5....

Bigel,

We should be a little more courteous. They are Japanese cars. Not ***. It is not too polite and truth is whether a car last or not depends on some luck and maintenance. Even the best car makers produce lemons.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

Engineering of the product is different than engineering of the assembly process. Sure, we invent great stuff. But figuring out how to mass produce those inventions is another game entirely. Integrating effective "Quality Assurance" into that process is not equal across all car companies.

The Japanese bought into the importance of the QA process (as sold to them By Edwards Demming, an AMERICAN) way ahead of Detroit. We could've had a head start in this area, but did not take advantage of it.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

But it's the Infiniti "signiture" clock! Actually I like it. Apparently there is a recall on the clocks: Infiniti will change the clock with narrow hands to one with fat hands. Seems like a stupid recall. I can see the skinny hands just fine and I don't want anyone messing with my car unless it is really necessary.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

Exactly. That is part of my point. Asian companies were smart to perfect the process. Just don't try to feed me that American engineering is bad.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

Right on. American engineering stuck a man on the moon, finished the Panama canal, and built the Hoover dam, among other things.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

Ha Ha Nope it was my sisters Alero that drives like a sponge, loses the paint off of the pillars, has crap *** brakes, 0 accerlation, leaks from the moonroof, I'm sure the list is bigger but it's her car so I dont know all of the defects. Sounds like just what you would expect from a 2 year old car!! My first car was american and chances are that will be my last. Just my opinion. I know I am going to love my JAPANEESE car just as I liked my last one (Prelude) and the ones that my mom has (4Runner & S2000) they are great cars and will outlast any OLDS if you ask me.

Re: THE COOL CLOCK!

Fact of the matter is that a Japaneese car will outlast any american car and cost less to maintain. And I know you didnt ask me I F*%king told you!
