Creak Noise

Hi guys,

I know this is a very difficult topic to tackle, but I need help with a super annoying creaking noise. I have had this creak for about 6 months. It happens when I am at a stop, I accelerate (nothing abnormal) and its a creak coming from my rear passenger wheel well. It also happens when I am driving aggressively and the car jolts forward, you can hear the creak. To sum it up, the car creaks when moving forward to back not up and down. Its not my springs or shocks/struts. I took it to a mechanic and he said it might be my brake dust shield? Wiggled it around and couldn't figure it out. ANY IDEAS? :banghead

Here is the video:

Is it a creak or a click? Could it be the ever so common axle click?

It could very well be that. But I really am not sure. I will get a video up after work and see if that helps. Appreciate the input my man.

If it is the dreaded axle click it's a pretty straightforward DIY if you're handy with a wrench.

Yep, easy fix. Might as well do it even if that's not the problem you are experiencing because it will happen sooner or later.

What do you guys think? Here is the video, it starts after I roll back and then continues to do so from every stop to start.

you're gonna have to lift the rear up and have someone pin point the sound. Only way to find out i'm afraid.

How would you recommend I do this? Put the car on stands and start poking around and seeing if anything is lose or needs replacing?

I'd have to agree with you, the axle click is a lighter, more metallic sound.

Yup^ I can compare the "click" to the sound of having a rock stock in your tire..

yep. Or you can place the jack on the rear differential which is a jack point. You're gonna need a low profile jack to get at it though.

To clarify, it's not a good idea to work under the car using only a jack. You can jack it up using the rear diff but definitely use stands.
