I sold the G
I sold my 2006 6MT G35 Coupe this week.
This was the best car I've ever owned but at the same time the worse car I ever owned.
I purchased the car used with 47K miles from a used car dealer.. Good thing I purchased and extended warranty from Infiniti, I would have been up the river with our a paddle had I not.
It obvious that whoever owned it sold it then the Oil Consumption issue was discovered.
I made a bad assumption that Infiniti makes a quality product and any kinks would be worked out by the 06/07 model. I also learned I need to research into the model history of the next car I purchase.
I'm sure my Jeep is happy now that she has me all to herself now.
Pros:
- Looks & Style
- Handling, cornering, braking were great
Cons:
- Lost approximately 3 quarts of oil in less than 1000 miles due to oil consumption defect that plagues select models.
- Dealer approved short block replacement; the clown that did the work was probably, drunk, blind and used his feet to do the work. Where the new section was mated to the engine was not sealed correctly I had to find this out myself, oil was seeping from the seams. Took it back to the dealer to have the repair repaired about a week later get the car back and burnt oil fumes come into the cabin under certain circumstances. I go back to the dealer they check it and find nothing wrong (really?!!!!) The car was still leaking oils externally somewhere in the engine as it was showing on the lower engine protective cover.
- Car still needed about 1.5 quart added before the 3500 mile oil change interval
- Engine would make a noise like a small bird was trapped in the engine on initial start up and would go away after about 10 min of driving.
- Radiator fans stopped working correctly which caused the AC to shut down, replaced fans under extended warranty.
- Drivers seat had the famous rip towards the left rear that you see very often on G35 coupes, replaced seat bottom under extended warranty.
- Left side hood hinge seized up and caused the hood to impact the edge of the fender resulting in paint damage.
- The leather on the driver’s door handle became unglued from the plastic under the silver section. I would have sworn it was a complete leather piece until I removed the cover.
- The dashboard developed a hairline crack that started where it meets the instrument cluster working its way towards the passenger side.

Did you research the car before you bought it?
Not trying to sound sarcastic, but I did HEAVY research on alot of cars before I bought the G. I knew it has many nagging issues, but the drivetrains for non-rev up cars is relatively robust. I took the risk.
You know that every car has issues. Sorry the G gave you OC problems. My altima with a 3.5 had the same plus timing tensioner issues. But the G has a motor made in Japan, and I have heard they use higher quality components (specifically the plastic for tensioner).
