Yeah def how I felt. She says she slipped on ice. It happens, nothing can be done. I do have a large deductible on my insurance so hopefully things can work out with her.

Thanks for the help.

even get a check. Also, you'll have to pay comprehensive damage

It's good to have a police report, but since you're no longer at the
scene and time has already passed somewhat it might not make a difference.
Police reports are useful when you get rearended or something while you
are driving. then the person that hit you can not come back and report
to the police later that you backed into her/him or what not.

Anyway, hope things work out for you. I've gotten hit in parking lots
so many times I think I know how you feel. its real frustrating and you
want the car fixed NOW! Goodluck man.

If she can't afford it, i'll go through her insurance and have infiniti do it (lowers my cars value tho, because will show as accident).

Oh well.

Very upset. Will post pics of damages later.

hey man, yes i would be upset also but consider yourself lucky that she was a decent enough person to actually write her # down and pay for what she did, good luck with it!!

That damage will most likely be contained under $500, depending on where exactly the dents/scratches are. To me, that's cheap, because this car can get EXPENSIVE to repair. If you're getting more 'reflection' than damage in your pics, then be happy that that's the case

A new bumper cover will cost no more than $500 and it will look like new. Thats what they used on my old Acura just a few months ago....you should be really lucky she gave you her number, I wouldn't worry about a police report (its too late anyways) but she is a honest women, she isn't going to try and screw you over.

I have been screwed over twice, hit and runs.

You know this has happened to me before (not exactly like this but..) a guy hit me while trying to make a "changed my mind" left and brushed my rear bumper.
I was calm but I didn't want this on my record either so I told him that I would get an estimate and would call him to arrange for a deal if he didn't want it on his record. In my mind I was thinking that I should report this because what if he reports it first and blames it on me? But after all said and done, he paid me $800 cash to have it fixed and I wrote an agreement between us that we couldn't sue each other and that was done.
Moral: Some people are in fact honest and instead of doing what's best for the "law" try to see if that person is willing to pay for things up front instead of using the insurance comp.

On a side note, some buddies and I were driving by Pier 39 in SF and some d*ck backed right up into a new Mustang and just kept parking. No note, didn't even look when he got out!

When my previous cars were hit, it was usually someone who witnessed the accident that left info; this enabled the police to track down the culprit and charge with hit and run. That said, I've confronted people that slam their doors into other cars and drive/walk away. Bottom line, if more people looked out for each other, the world would be a safer and better place and deter criminals.

if she is willing to pay cash go with it. it'll go down unrecorded and it'll get the job done faster. take the car to a shop and have them give you an estimate.. it wont cost you anything just some time. then go over it with her and you'll be fine.

now if you go through insurance... NOTHING happens to YOUR insurance because you were not in your car nor was it moving. if you guys do decide to go through insurance be polite about it and call her and have her make the claim then you can call again. you'll probably need to wait a few days and you'll get a call asking for details, obviously you cant give much. next you'll wait for someone to check out your car etc.. etc.. but keep in mind that this will take at LEAST a month.. i have not yet seen or heard of an insurance company that will settle this matter in less than a month.

save the lady some trouble and go with cash, she DID in good will leave her contact. give her something for that.. normally you'll get nothing and have to claim your own insurance.

good luck =) if you need any help feel free to hit me up with a PM...

Thanks, got the estimates done today. Cheapest was $968, highest estimate some body shop gave me was $1375. I called her up and she is willing to pay for it, seems like a very nice old lady. Told me to give her till thursday, so hopefully everything works out.

Told my father about it, he gave me a look, said to take the money and go to shea statdium and get it fixed (those of you in nyc area, know what that place is like).. told him I didn't want a crappy job done to my car with crappy paint. He gave me the look.

LOL, so that's basically where i'm at. Hopefully, everything works out alright.

Above you mentioned that you were worried about the lady not paying you. Don't be worried. There are several things you should consider.

The first is that she left a note admitting fault. Secondly, she grew up in a completely different generation. A time where people were responsible citizens and actually owned up to what they did wrong (very admirable IMO). Finally, she probably feels bad about what she did and wants to make it right. Just give her a chance and see how things turn out.

I realize that I'm "stereotyping" this scenario, but I'm basing this post on my own personal past experiences.

Good luck with the repairs!

neffster just posted basically what I was going to say as well - people from her generation, on average, had a lot more integrity than people today. she gave you her number, she's answered your calls, and she's willing to settle it with you. Those are good signs this will be resolved without much hassle.

i hear that! whenever i see anyone door-ding another car i always let the "dinger" know. i know how pissed off i would be if some dumb@$$ put a big door ding on my coupe! i cant believe how oblivious & ignorant some people can be to not even realize/care that they are damaging someone else's property! after attending college where 90% of the students commuted to class i saw a LOT of that in 4 years.

Yeah, she seems like a very honest type of person. She actually called me yesterday to see if I contacted her insurance company or not. I told her I would not until I got estimates and to see if she wanted to pay in cash or not, she thanked me for doing that.

Once I got the estimates, I gave her a call, she was kind of surprised about the amount, and I felt kind of bad that she has to pay it. But she wanted to pay it in cash, asked me to give her till thursday. Further, she asked how she would get me the money, I told her I could pick it up.. I think she became a little worried at that remark and proceeded to tell me that she lives in a gated community and they probably wouldn't let me in. I realized this, and responded, with, no problem, i'll call you on weds night and you can just tell me how you want to arrange it. She said ok.. and that was that. Panning out ok!

Quick question, my car is very very very dirty. You guys probably would punch me in the face if you saw the condition of my car right now. I want to get a wash, but, will it make the scratches worse? There is a paint chip, will it spread this? Just wondering, I can't wash it myself because its freezing out and snow on the ground.
