I could see the SLK350 being $51 since they start at $46K

My friend just picked his 05 slk 350 2 days ago, I tried it and IMO its not as good as the G...but the handling is good...and his car got silver exterior and red interior and it looks sweet...all for 57k w/o navi and heated seats.

SLK 350 has very good handeling , but i dont feel the car is faster then my G. Interior is nice and i love the hard top convertible, but 50K+ is way out of my budget. My frd got hers for 51K OTD ..just the base model!!!

Well I don't own either the MB or the G, but what I have noticed in driving/riding in Mercedes is that their acceleration is very well hidden. The car is so smooth that it seems like you are going slower than you are, and it seems like the "pushed into your seat" effect isn't there. But in reality when you look to see how fast the speedo needle moves up its quite surprising.

But then again I guess a comfy ride, even when accelerating, is what people want in high end luxury cars.

But the distance from $57K (SLK350 w/o navi) to $40k for our 05 G35 6MTs with everything is huge! And its not even a true coupe.

I believe the real difference comes at speeds > 200 km/h, that's where these German luxury cars really strut their stuff. Friend took me for a drive in his Mbenz on the Autobahn a few years back and you didn't even realize that you were going 250. I doubt Japanese cars are that great in high speeds, then again, we don't live in Chur-many

I'll have to disagree a bit. Went for a ride in a friends S55 AMG. We got onto the interstate as soon as we were in the merging lane he punched and my god my head smacked the headrest and I got a rush of adrenaline. You're probably right about the other non AMG cars though.

Yeah and thats just the entry fee, that doesn't include the maintenance fee.

SLK-55 is the only one worth MAYBE $50k (which is like $65k in Benz dollars). That's also the only one running in the 13s, AFAIK.

CLS2 - You are right, I was talking about the non AMG models. The one chance I had to ride in an AMG 55...whew, that was awesome...

I have seen a few of them in person and they are good-looking machines....very short, but good-looking nonetheless, and I really dig the retractable hardtop.
I really dont think those times are quicker than the coupe since one or two magazines have clocked the G35 doing 5.5 and 5.4 secdonds respectively.

Well MB isn't for everyone. If extra 20k means a lot to you you probably shouldn't even consider it. I am not being snobby. I can probably afford a SLK350 with no options but no way I can afford a loaded one (I can probably get one but realistically speaking that's not practical for me yet.) You should try the 6 speed manual as well as automatic.
