Jaguar owner coming to Infiniti -- Questions and pics of the Jag No 56k...

I had an accident in the Jag and it is probably totaled. Black Ice. I hate it. No one else was involved, the damage was caused from a fence.

I walked away without a scratch. No one else was in the car or around when the accident happened.

Anyhow, I am researching for a new car just in case the car does get written-off. I only say that it probably is based upon the evaluations of others and that there is probably chassis damage. Moreover, Jag parts are very expensive and depreciation on the X-Type is massive. So the cost to repair/actual cash value ratio may not be very good.

I want a different car. The G35 seems to be a fun car, sporty, more features than the Jag standard, and full RWD. I live in the Metro DC area but am willing to have a car shipped in or drive to somewhere within a few hours to get the car, but what prices are you typically seeing on either the sedan or coupe?

What are the differences between the two, horsepower, standard equipment, etc. I know the intelligent key and (obviously) reclining rear seats are not available on the coupe, which is really what is driving me toward the sedan.

The only thing detracting me from the sedan is the looks. the front end seems more flat, and the trunk is not as attractive.

Please give me your opinions and impressions on driveability, practicality, technology.

Thanks.

BTW, I am looking at the 05' model exclusively.

Maybe you are better off with an AWD with snow tires?

There really wasn't anything I could do, going at a relatively slow speed and then the car just went beserk. It would be just as easy for it to happen to anyone else so...

Sorry to about the Jag, glad you are ok. If you are in the market for a car now see if you can find an 04, chances are you will be able to get a good deal on them. In the G's you will notice a firmer ride and sharper handling than the Jag, they feel very planted and responsive. Depending on the engine you had in the X type 192v227, the G's have 280 in the auto 05 sedans and auto coupes, 298 in the manual coupe and sedan. They also have 270 ft/lb of torque in the autos. Car and Driver rated sports sedans a few months ago with the G35 first, and Jag last. Seeing how you are leaning toward the sedan i'd recommend an 05 G35x with awd and the premium package for the reclining seats, keyless ignition, bose stereo, heated seats, etc. Good Luck with it.

That really sucks. You'll be happy if you get the infinity.

Whatever car you get, I highly recommend winter-specific tires. Be it FWD, RWD or AWD, you will be safe to yourself and others. I love my coupe, and I bought winter wheels and tires.

You can negotiate the price of any car. I bought mine at $100 over invoice.

I own a 04 6MT. My wife just bought an 05 X-type Jag. I think it is a POS. When she brought it home from the dealer it had three defects. The one that concerns me the most was the whine of the rear differential that is quite noticeable. What was you experience with the X-type?

I think you will find the G35 vastly superior. As far as AWD versus RWD, I live in the Chicago area and with traction control and snow tires it is fun to drive in snow.

Yea, I had that rear diff whine too. I was supposed to go in next week to get it fixed, but I think the car has bigger problems now. I tend to agree that the car should offer more... but the way that Jag designs the cars there really isn't an option except to decontent. All of their interiors look the same, so they took out the leather dash, electronic hand brake, used cheap (really hard plastic)... etc. I am sure the G35 is better in terms of features, but in terms of prestige... no contest. I've done the prestige thing though and it just attracts unwanted attention and jealousy. I think a more understated Infiniti or Acura is better. That's what I'm cross shopping... TL (5.1 Sound, Sun Tracking Climate Control, Hands Free Bluetooth, Key Memory, plus Navi that won't bring the price to above 38k with other options.). I still have yet to drive either, but in terms of brand, I prefer the Infiniti. Only because I see Acura as going nowhere as a luxury brand. Even on their flagship the best they can offer is "simulated" wood and leather steering wheel. They may have all the tech in the world, but get the basics of luxury right.

Infiniti has a distinct path set out for them, technology, modern, and luxury. The new M is a perfect example of this.

Wait, were you saying you got a lot of attention in the Jag? I really didn't understand that part of the post.. Just wait til you get the G everyone will be drooling over it no contest. My impressions with the TL, fwd, turned me off right away. There little sound cd's that was kind of a cool feature but that's about that. The NAV system in the Acura's are by far the best, but again nothing to woo me into that car.

I was seriously considering a Jag X type. Until I drove one! You will really like the G.

Had a Xtype before too...

I had and X-Type for a little over two years and was rather unhappy about it. Everytime I took it in for an oil change, they had to repair something. I admit, it was a nice looking car, but performance and repairs were a problem.

One time, my entire transmission died and the car was in the shop for over three weeks. After I picked it up, I happened to drive by the Infiniti dealer for a test drive... rest is history. The G is great. Drives 100x better then then the X. (Err, except for in the snow)

I guess the real test of a car is this: if your car was stolen or completely totaled (like yours), would you get the same car? or a different one? If something happened to my G35, I know I'd get another one.

'04 TB AT all options.
