Experiment worked - 07 G35S Brakes on 03 Coupe
Hey guys, wanted to share my experiences with a swap I finally got around to doing - 2007 G35 sport sedan 13" brakes onto 2003 coupe.
About a year ago I did the Akebono upgrade on my sedan. As you know it's a direct swap for V36 chassis, but V35 chassis requires adapters.
With that logic, I figured the sedan brakes would likely work on the coupe with adapters. It works! Barely, but it works!!
Kit used is the Vertex Suspension Kit from Ebay. Not sure if other kits work if they use other hardware.
Minimal mods are required:
1) Don't use washers with the bolts holding the adapter to the control arm (including the bolt that holds the moon-shaped piece). They will interfere with the caliper and rotor if you do - that's how close you are.
2) The bottom mounting tab of the caliper interferes with the control arm slightly. Take a dremel and round it off little by little until interference is gone. Very ease.
Compared to what I had before, overall feel is more very responsive, stronger, and seems well matched to the master cylinder (these brakes are single-piston, but do the job. I found that going to 2 pistons on the 2006 brakes caused pedal to feel mushy.
Can't really compare to the Akebonos because it's on a different and much better car.
I doubt many of you will do this swap, but this will help someone (I searched and searched in the past and found nothing, but figured $100 adapter was a cheap gamble).
Will post pics later of the end result - didn't take pics along the way as it's basically same as the Akebono swap.

I contemplated this swap for the longest but couldn't fathom how to pull it off. Simple. cheap, effective. NICE! When are the pictures coming? BTW, I'm assuming you mean your v36 is worlds better than the v35.

Here's ope pic of the final product...I'll take some better ones of my rides soon.
I thought about it for the longest time also...wanted to be reasonably sure it would work before I invested $100 and a night of my time to try it out.
Made sense it would work, as the Akebonos bolt on direct to the V36. It's really close in some spots..I was expecting it and was prepared to get out the dremel or machine parts. Good thing it was actually a pretty painless swap.
Also, rears bolted right on, as would the Akebonos.
I think it's a great upgrade, do it up if you have a set! And yeah, I did mean the V36 sedan is better than (at least my) coupe.
Someone grab these, great cheap BBK, it's super easy to do, just get the adapters from vertex suspension on ebay (conceptz prob works too, but can't confirm).
These brakes I believe are even bigger than Brembos (12.6 inch rotor vs. 13 inches all around).

Did your coupe ever have the Brembos on it? I was wondering how this setup compared to them. Bigger rotor yes, but going from a 4 pot fixed caliper to a single pot floater sounds.... meh. Was just wondering if you ever had them to give an accurate comparison.
sweet swap though

Actually my car came with the crappiest brakes, the 12inch rotors on front. So anything was an improvement. I then I swapped in the two piston from a 2006. This swap feels a bit better because it's matched to the master cylinder better
Of course the Akebonos are much more responsive and stronger.
Cheers!
