Loud noise when in tiptronic between 5-6000rpm shifting from 1st-2nd

no clue whats going on , 1st time i heard it is today... I did it a few times just to make sure and its guaranteed everytime .happens when i take off hard from 1st-2nd in the higher rpm range. Its kinda loud (not a squeel or squeak) .... when i put it in D and put my foot on the pedal and it hits the same RPMs , i dont hear it ???? it drives fine if i shift under 4000 in tiptronic
Any ideas , kinda freakin me out ...

When was the last time you had your AT serviced or checked the fluid level? Maybe it's time to check it and replace if you haven't in several thousand miles....Gary

what kind of noise is it? like a knocking sound? does the shift feel harder than normal or jerky at all? be a little more descriptive. Like Gary stated, if its been a while since the transmission has been serviced, I would suggest starting there just on principal. Filter, hot flush, back-flush the cooler. The norm. My other suggestion would be to leave it in "D" and drive like you have a pound of green in the passenger seat until you get a proper diagnosis.

Thanks guys, good call Gary its most likely from low tranny fluid
i checked the fluid while engine was running/hot and it was definitely low ,a bit below the crossmarks so im gonna do a top off in a bit with some castrol ATF for imports ..and then a 3 cycle drain and fill starting next week with matic s ..
Also im used to atf 4 transmission fluid for jeep wranglers which is red in color, i noticed that the transmission fluid in my G is yellow , doesnt seem burnt or anything, just a clear yellowish color like engile oil or something , is that normal?

when u top it up and that fixes the problem, don't drain and fill.

Our ATs don't have a filter....FYI! A drain/fill should be all he needs unless the fluid is burnt then he should do a drain/fill several times.

Check the color of the fluid, if it shows any signs of being dark make sure you drain/fill! Seriously?

Wtf are you talking about? Get out of here.

OP, if you have never serviced the transmission and you're in high mileage, do not flush the transmission. Search around, there are tons on threads where people flushed at 80k+ and reported a heavily slipping transmission. Your best bet is a pan drain and fill. You can do this multiple times with a few hundred miles in between to obtain a higher overall ratio of new to old fluid. The drain and fill will require 4 quarts of MATIC S ONLY! Good luck!

??? Thats what Im saying. If adding fluid makes the problem go away, dont do the service. U never change ATF fluid back in the day. It causes more problems.

It's in the factory recommended service schedule. A complete flush will cause issues, whereas successive drain and fills will near completely nullify the risk of transmission slip. I.e. it leaves the nasty a$$ ****/grip in the tranny.

checking my tranny fluid and it turns out its darker ,smells slightly burnt and was a little low... so yesterday I got 12 quarts of matic J ... jacked it up removed the bolt and drained about 4 quarts .... was planning on driving 100 miles and repeating that 2 more times .. Would that be good enough

I read elsewhere about removing a hose from the radiator and turning the car on but id rather my route if it works

I would do a drain/fill spaced at this, maybe more mileage. My fluid was near black, and I have done three drain/fills with no ill effect... yet... started at 88k, last one was 94k, almost 100k now.

Ok so this sounds like a stupid question but I have to ask it since its happened for the 2nd day in a row after multiple attempts of checking
In the morning I check the fluid on a level surface when the vehicle is cold and after 5 checks it appears on the dipstick as overfilled ( half an inch over the cross marks) but when i start it and run it for 5-10 min it appears a half inch below cross the marks
Im so freakin confused

AT fluid should be checked HOT after driving a few miles, then shifting through every gear before you check it. At infinitihelp.com there is a FSM that outlines how to properly check AT fluid.
