A/C Clutch Staying Engaged & Killing Battery
A/C Clutch Staying Engaged & Killing Battery
THE CAR:
I have a 2003 G35 Coupe with 155,000 miles on it. I have not had a single problem with this car up until this point so I do consider myself slightly lucky.
THE PROBLEM:
The problem that I am having started about a month ago and has been driving me crazy ever since. It all started when I attempted to start my car one day only to discover it was deader than a door nail. After some evaluating, we discovered that my battery was being drained by my A/C clutch staying engaged. The only way to continue to drive my car each day is to disconnect/reconnect the negative battery terminal each and every time I start my car. If you look down in the belt assembly while reattaching the terminal, you can see/hear the clutch engaging and disengaging each time you reconnect/disconnect it.
WHAT I HAVE DONE TO FIX IT:
After hours of research into this problem, these are the possible solutions that I have found and tried. None have worked thus far.
-Resetting the ECU-I just successfully tried this today and while I still think it was beneficial, the problem is still there.
-Checking the A/C Relay-Checked the relay and it was perfectly fine aside from a little corrosion that was cleared.
-Turning off the A/C before turning of the car-Nothing here.
-Check the A/C Freon levels-Ok so I have not tried this yet but only because numerous people have told me that is definitely not the issue.
]The SES light does come on sometimes but only after quick restarts of my car. I fully believe the light only comes on due to low power at the time. Upon having the code checked, I was informed that there could possible be a problem with my ECU. The error said that it had something to do with the RAM of my ECU.
If ANYONE can help provide my with even some insight into this problem, you will forever be my hero. I have searched endlessly for this issue and have seen NOTHING relating to it. So, if you are even able to find another source of someone having this issue, PLEASE link it.
Thank you all in advance for at least looking at my first post!!

well I'd suggest that you just replace the A/C compressor.. if the clutch is goofed up that is about all you can really do aside from rebuilding it.
Hell a re manufactured one prolly has a lifetime warranty anyways LOL.

I just experienced this same problem. After playing around with the A/C controls, on/off defrosters on/off etc the relay clicking does not happen when reconnecting the battery. Hopefully it was just stuck closed and it will be ok. I'd probably just cut the wires to the unit b4 replacing the compressor. ;o
