Thinking about dumping my Mach for G?

1 Attachment(s)
Hello all, I currently own an 04 Mustang Mach 1 with 75k miles but am considering selling it for stock G35 coupe 6 speed of the same mileage range. Ive enjoyed for a long while driving my Mach and the noise my only mod makes (Borla Catback) but feel my driving experience is fading due to the cheap interior, harsh ride, and it missing a few key features. Im no hotrod racer so as long as I have the power to blip the throttle around sketchy drivers and I won't be disappointed with the down step in power (I'm currently just north of 300/320 hp/tq). Ultimately the thought of a more refined ride with heated seats, sunroof, smooth quiet driving on hwy, and all while keeping most of the power and manual tranny makes me fuzzy inside. Does any of this sound like I'll be regretting my decision if I go with a G35 coupe?

I've been eyeing G35s in the Phx area but prices are so varied it's going to take me some time to get an accurate idea of how much it'll cost me. Any insight on the current market would be great help as well. Thanks for your help!

Here's what I'd be replacing.

Drive one.

You're not really trading up or down very much. The G35 could be considered the Mustang of the import world... unfortunately, it's more like a Honda.

Test drive an 03-04 & 05+ manual G, since the engines are slightly different between the two. Performance wise, the acceleration will obviously be a little less but it will also have better handling characteristics.

The G is a whole different class of car. Nothing wrong with the Mach, personally one of my favorite mustangs of the last 10 years. G is more refined, more comfortable, has more goodies and is way better looking.

But be smart and don't buy a coupe lol. :icon38: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...s-sticker.html

I have nothing but respect for cars similar to "Hondas" haha. Prior to this 4.6l V8, I owned a 2000 Civic Si boosted on 10PSI making little over 300whp to which I enjoyed driving everyday for many years. I must add my brother owned an 04 6 speed 350z that I drove a few times many years ago and always enjoyed the ride.

I do sit back and look at the big picture seeing that this is basically a lateral move from one coupe to another and yet I still have to go through all the Craigslist crap of selling then trying to find a clean stock G35. I've gotta say on top of the reasons I've mentioned above I thoroughly envy the light colored cars with tan interiors here in AZ :) . My dark grey with black leather is HOT and not sure I want to go through another 115 degree summer with my bum/black being roasted.

Just throwin it out there that the ride is still fairly rough, but I've never driven/ridden in a mustang so I can't really compare the ride quality.

Said no car magazine or engineer in the last decade. lol

That said, I think you'll enjoy the move man. I have two friends (mechanics) with Mach 1's and they love them. But they both enjoyed my car. And I there's. That said, I think the G is a solid move for you. Keep in mind, there's a lot of tech to break and it's a lot more expensive to maintain than the Mustang. But, it doesn't break to the point where it's annoying. It's a GREAT cruiser/touring car.

Are you honestly under the impression that a ford is a better made vehicle as well as more reliable than a Nissan? No hate here curious to see your side and where you're coming from

If your ok with the lost in power. Then i think it would be a nice upgrade. You get leather, projector HIDS, a decent hp v6 even by today's standards and better handling with the independent double wish bone suspension. The powertrain is pretty bullet proof, and the g35 is cheap to fix.

Try to find a 06-07 g35 manual. The 03-04 g35s 6 speeds had issues with gear grinds and the 06-07 has better projector hids and nicer interior.

But i would test drive it to see if your ok with the tq lost. Its a torquey v6 but its no v8.

Am I under that impression? No. Absolutely not. But the rest of the automotive world and world in general? Yes. Ok. So maybe I am just a bit. That said, if you look at numbers sold, market share, awards, etc, Nissan isn't even a contender. I mean, Ford has 3 of the top 10 vehicles sold in the world. Ford has beat both Apple and Google for number 1 brand in America. I love my Nissan. Don't get me wrong. But I don't have any misconceptions about what the car is.

Keep your Mach 1. I traded my Mustang in for a G35 sedan. I miss the Mustang, but the move was right for me (i needed a winter-capable car that could drive 30+ miles in 6" of snow)

Mustangs are cheaper to modify, cheaper to repair, cheaper to maintain. Have you ridden around in a G35 with 75+K miles? The interiors are not that better. Rattles. the damn cig lighter area trim turns yellow when you shine a flashlight at it. MUCH better fuel economy in the V8 Mustang (not kidding here). You're not missing much with the heated seats. They are't the best in any car i've been in with heated seats. Interior is getting dated. The sunroof is nice though...cant argue with that. The mustang chassis may be dated, but Ford had a lot of time to iron out the kinks. The 4.6L goes to 200K miles easily.

I consider it a lateral move at this point. It would be one thing to trade the Mach 1 in for a NEW G37, but to trade it in for an equal year G35 coupe is lateral in my opinion.

In terms of quality, my Mustang had not a single issue when i traded it in at 80K miles. oil changes, and that was all it needed. Never even needed anything under warranty. My G35, whiile a reliable car as well, did need some stuff done under warranty. It was the usual list you'll see on the boards. (compression rods, axle click, etc). The 6-spd does have transmission and clutch issues to be aware of as well...plus that damn oil consuption issue. I'm not trying to say the Ford is better quality, but they have improved a lot into the mid 2000's. I personally wouldn't really rank Nissan quality higher than Ford. But of course...ever dealership has a service center for a reason. Every brand has issues

I recommend finding a few for sale and take them for a ride. See how you like the cars in general and go from there. Make sure you drive a few around to get a good feel for average condition of cars in the age/mileage range you are looking for.

I spent quite a bit of time in both cars. I bought my Mustang new in 03 and drove it 5 years before trading in for my G35. I've now had the G35 for 5 years. So i have a bit of experience in both cars long-term

O.P, you wont regret it..Unless you are a family man and need the 4door..I would get a coupe 6mt..
You will still be pleasantly surprised of the torque that they have..When you drove the 04 350z 6 speed, well that's the same feel basically you will have..The Z is slightly lighter weight(-200lbs) then the G35,due to no rear seats and carbon drive axle..I believe the G35 will be more reliable in the long run..Good Luck

I know this guy is a boss here and I'ma sorta noob, but... 6MT Coupe FTW effin sedan lovers LOL:driving:

will be the closest you can get to that Mach1 ... I had an '00 GT 5 speed running about 320HP/325WTQ a few years back & the G may not be as peppy when ya stomp the gas, but overall it is a MUCH better ride all the way :)
