Losing Control On Purpose
Losing Control On Purpose
Ok this is my theory. I think that when you get a new car and have broken it in / are used to it you should go to a safe clear setting and lose control of it to an extent. I know I plan on doing this with the coupe espically with all this new computer controlled stuff because if i am ever in an emergency situation on the road I want to know how the car is gonna react to whatever I do to it. Anybody else think this is a good idea?? Keep in mind I mean in a safe controlled situation and without putting too much wear and tear on the car. Just a thought.
Re: Losing Control On Purpose
Try it with VDC both on and off.
With it on, I find I can't make the car fishtail at all, even in the rain. (Though I wasn't initiating crazy moves at high speeds -- I was trying stuff at low speeds or from a stand still.)
With it off, the car is a much different beast.. spinning wheels, oversteer, the works.

try taking it to a SCCA Solo II event aka "autocrossing" you can push your car to the limits there and that way...if something horribly goes wrong, god forbid, theirs others there to help you out, also theirs people there that have been doing forever that can show you some tricks of the trade, theirs also a lot of badass car there to look at, and plus it sounds like a lot of fun. i'm gonna do it after i get my car and break it in...i can't wait

I did on route 74 in So.Cal. Goes straight thru a some mountains and forests, with all the twisties in between. VDC off is scary when the road has some dirt and the only other lane is a 200ft drop into a valley. The car feels a tad on the heavy side, even if it does pull .9g's.
I think you should go for it. If you get nothing out of it, at least you'll have some fun trying.
