G35 vs. RX-8...??

anyone here considered a RX-8 before purchasing their coupe..?? i just saw X-men 2 yesterday and saw the RX-8 that was in the movie...the car looked hot...but..the coupe is still the hottest...
i saw a comparison on car and driver...and the RX-8 beat the coupe...they got the coupe doing 0-60 in 6.1...which is total BS....i hate car and driver...i read motor trend....

Re: G35 vs. RX-8...??

the xmen 2 car and the regular rx-8 are different whne it comes to the interior and the exterior. i had the opportuntiy to see the xmen 2 car up close and personal, when they were prepping it for a reshoot here in la. and man, that car is totally hot! the body kit, the lights, (light bulbs and mount are differnet), and the interior compartments are almost completely different and was made especially for the movie. if you noticed, you saw the whole "x" theme all around the car. the guys who brought the car, said that they had heard rumors about mazda selling a limited production of X2 cars or at least the kits. but i have yet to have this confirmed. when they told me that, i had briefly considered buying the rx-8 but until its confirmed, i am gonna wait for my g.

Never rely only on 0-60; use 5-60

0-60 tests are misleading at best, since they normally abuse the clutch and tires to extract optimal launches. On high-strung cars like the RX-8 and Honda S2000, such launches require 5k RPM clutch-drops. Take a look at the rolling (5-60) start times. I think the time dropped to the low-sevens for both.

Yes I considered the RX-8 and the 350Z, as well as going as far as the M3. I think the interior is hot on the RX-8 and it's definitely unique.......just not sure until I can see and drive it in person. When is it due out again?

RX8 has no tork and I think rotary engines sound like **** compared to our V6.

Re: G35 vs. RX-8...??

the reliability on the rx8 is unknow yet since it is not delivered to the buyers hand...but soon we will know...
but what i am thinking is that
G35c has 280 hp and 270lb torque...which is much more the the rx8 off the start...but rx8 has better handling and modable...and also cheaper
so i wonder whats ur reason to make u to choose the G35c...?

Re: G35 vs. RX-8...??

The G35 is more in the luxury segment than the RX-8 is. A 350Z is more suited for comparison.

If you are looking for pure sport, then 350Z vs RX-8.
If you are looking for a nice integration of luxury and sport, then G35.

Plus, Mazda is notorious for poor service and reliability.

VQ engine.....!! one of the reasons why i chose the G35c...i drive a 2k1 maxima now and the engine is so smooth and powerful...
other reasons are that infiniti have better service, reliability and build than mazda....

Re: G35 vs. RX-8...??

Hmmmm, Lets see Luxury is a definate plus. The Rx8 reminds me of a 4 seater s2000, and dont get me wrong I love the S (Mom has one), but I dont want to see another one in the driveway. Plus the thought of having service done on a rotary engine. Parts as compared with the VQ engine must be expensive. Infiniti uses the same engine in at least 3 cars or more I think which brings the cost of parts down.

Re: G35 vs. RX-8...??

The RX-8 is an odd car that's tough to compare. The G is definitely much more luxurious, but the Z doesn't make a good comparison because the RX-8 has both a backseat and 4 doors. It's also several thousand less expensive than either. Finally, the Genesis rotary is a different beast than the VQ, you need to drive the RX-8 with the rpms way up there while the Z and G are rather strong at the low end in this market. Also, don't even consider an automatic transmission (more so than usual) because the AT RX-8 is extremely detuned, down at least 40 hp with ineffective gearing.

Personally, I wouldn't give up my G for anything less than an Alfa Romeo Brera, but I'd take the RX-8 over the 350Z. It's a more versatile car with a unique engine, and costs less. Z's definitely faster though.

Oh yeah, about Mazda reliability problems, that's mainly due to products shared with Ford. The RX-8 is obviously as pureblood a new Mazda as you'll find nowadays, and this rotary is supposed to be sturdier than the RX-7's. Even with the Ford taint, Mazda finished higher in Consumer Reports than every domestic brand, and every European maker except Saab. They did finish below every major Japanese maker (not the Suzukis or the Isuzus), but they're still in the above average tier, especially on their own product.

But no way I'd trade my G.

You guys who are deciding between the two should ALL get the RX-8.

Re: G35 vs. RX-8...??

I had a $1000 deposit down on a RX-8 due to come in sometime in June. It was going to be the first one in the region. Started reading the forums and checking out articles and realized that there were just too many things wrong with the RX-8 or should I say things that I didn't like (lack of torque, silly looking front end, looks like a dainty car not a man's car, etc...) and then I found the G35C. I think it was on the RX-8 forum that I first heard about the G35C and it made me curious so I had to check it out. I've never looked back. I got my deposit back the next week and realized what a big mistake I had almost made. Thank you to whoever's post I read that led me to the G35C. I get mine in June and I can't wait.
