I'm NOT a street racer, but this I could not pass up!

Just had an 3 gear encounter with an '05 Mustang GT manual! He had been probing me on the freeway for like 17 miles and I just stayed away as I am not much of a street racer, especially on a crowded freeway!

Well, it just so happens that we get off at the same exit, turn right, go through 3 or 4 green lights and then a red. This might well be described as a "calling", he pulls up next to me. I crack my window about 4 inches so I can hear his car, a nice one at that, a black GT with a silver stripe down the middle.

He's not revving and I'm not revving, but I KNEW he wanted to go because of my 17 miles with him on the highway. Let me say I was surprised! We both launch, no clutch drop or anything, I would say we both launched at about 2K rpm, I could hear his car well. He jumped about 1/2 car on me in first, I heard him redline (or close to), grabbed second, I got my front wheels just in front of his front bumper, grabbed third, hit just about redline and I had a 1/2 car on him, he shut down then I immediately did! I was surprised, because I could tell he could drive and he was definately "on it"! Needless to say I arrived to work four minutes later with a bit of a smile on my face!

Cool experience. It's hard to say who is a definite winner in the case, but still cool to go through. He prolly didnt know the extent of his cars power, cus naturally, that car should take ours on any given day, but good times though.....

You know, he comes up next to me on the freeway high RPM, punches it, slows down, punches it, slows down! It was VERY obvious he wanted to go, but as I said, I'm not much of a street racer and we were already going 80, traffic was heavy and my better judgement said "NO GO", freeway racing is REALLY stupid IMO! So he was like 1/4 mile ahead of me the entire stretch of the freeway and then I saw he was exiting and I was like........alright, let's see where he is going?

That is exactly why I was surprised! Trust me, he was on it though?

You can't say traffic is heavy and still going 80mph. If that's the case it will put a smile on me every day. Traffic is heavy = 20-30mph on the freeway.

Haha..here in SoCal, the traffic could be bumper to bumper and still traveling at 80mph.

Nice kill.

Actually......roadracer is based on my motorcycle roadracing and that is exclusively at the track! Driving a car is like walking down the street, the real rush is turn 8 at my local track, 140MPH+ with my knee planted on the tarmac!

Cool

Those '05 GT's are easy to spot in your rear view. The GT's have the headlamps/foglights located in the grille, and the V6's are plain. Nice "kill" though. I have yet come across an '05. 300 ponies, but I'm not sure that I would take one on. When that day comes, I'll either have an ear-to-ear grin, or have my tail between my legs. My $0.02.

Nice kill. Common guys the short shift knocks like 1/2 sec off the quarter. That puts us right up there with the '05 mustang

There is nothing wrong with losing a race, it is a good way to guage how fast your car is to another? I have always thrived in my racing career going against guys I know are faster, you learn more that way!

On that note, today was one of those weird days? On my way home I came up right behind an STI (don't see many of those?) heading onto the freeway on ramp and for some reason I knew he was going to go, so I did too! Those things are fast! It was up hill (a decent incline), so I think that gave me a bit of help (torque!), first gear right kink to enter the onramp which is a straight away, no cars and it is long and sure enough, he punched it! I would say he pulled 2 cars on me right away, but the gap did not get much bigger through 2nd, 3rd, but as we shifted to 4th It seemed that I was gaining a bit back, but about 5k in 4th, I shut it down! I am a bad boy and promise to be good tomorrow......oh yeah, I'm gonna ride the bike!

On the way to work, I smoked a M3, 911 and Cobra. The guys all caught up and join me for a beer and we talked over and over about my driving skills. D@mn, then the alarm clock went off (smile).

Seriously...that's cool. I see them all the time and they just drive by smiling as if to say "here's your ***..." I smile back and then beat up on the mini vans to let some steam off. A buddy of mine has a Cobra. I swear that fricken car has never been above 65 mph....I just want to punch him.
