Insurance question

This is the situation I am currently in. About a month ago I was hit by a uninsured driver, completed a police report and filed a claim with my previous insurance company(GEICO). At the end they told me I had to go through my own insurance to get my car fixed, my deductible at that moment was $1000 so I did not have the funds to get it fixed. Since then I have switched insurance companies with lower deductible and was wondering if it would be possible to use them and get my car fixed.

Short answer is no. I doubt an insurance company will pay for a claim that occurred prior to providing coverage for your vehicle. If you file a bogus claim, you're committing insurance fraud.

Better off filing a claim through small claims court, but if the person that hit you has no assets or wages that can be garnished, it would be a waste of time.
