150k miles... what should I expect?

150k miles... what should I expect?

Looks like I'm buying my cousins car for $7,500, It's 2007 g35 coupe 6 speed w/ 150k miles. The engine was replaced at 90k miles because of oil consumption and the clutch was done at 125k.

This is going to be a DD so I want to do some preventive maintenance before I sell my current car.

I would find a Nissan specialist and get a pre-purchase inspection done. Should cost you $150 and they'll tell you if there are leaks, if the suspension bushing are in good shape, if there are codes, if its been wrecked, if its been neglected, etc.

An obvious starting point would be the factory recommended service. You may have to interpolate the pattern out to 150k but that shouldn't be difficult.

In general, whenever I buy a used car, I will:

replace the coolant and all hoses,
replace the belt(s),
replace the plugs and wires (if applicable)
replace the oil, tranny fluid and diff fluids
flush (not just bleed) the brakes

Many people neglect the fluids so for an afternoon's efforts I feel better knowing they are fresh.

I have a 2006 with 160K miles.

Really just stay on top of fluid changes and inspect things like drive belts, pullies, control arms, etc for wear and tear.

In the same situation here -- can you be more detailed in the things I need to inspect or change? Can you also put it in order or priority?

What type of fluids are you referring to? brake? transmission?

Just came back from a 300 mile short of 10k miles cross country road trip with 191k miles on my 05 Coupe.

Nothing but burning oil.

At that sort of miles, really you need to consider all the fluids.

Engine and trans are always #1, but coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid and rear differential should be considered as well.

I changed my rear diff at 50K miles with mobil 1. At 150K miles I changed it again and it was still clean. (I have AWD so I did both front and rear) so a good quality fluid change here can last a long time.

Other than that, inspect belts, the battery, and check out the suspension for damaged bushings. Suspension clunks will prob rear their head here and arms and bushings will need to be replaced.

Only MAJOR work my car needed from 0 to 160K miles was 3 front wheel bearings. But I DIY on those. Other than that, pretty reliable car

1. Fluids (oil, coolant, brake, trans, diff, headlight)
2. Plugs
3. Clutch, if getting bad
4. Bushings
5. Belts
6. Hoses

Wouldn't hurt to get the tires rebalanced and rotated with an alignment.
