Okay sorry if this is a dumb question, but while im driving I can hear a knocking noise very slightly but once I put it into park or netural and rev the engine up there the knocking doesnt happen, what could it be?

 

could be exhaust heat shield that's under the car to make it sound like its the engine .. any engine codes or performance lost ?

 

There are no engine codes, and I dont think there is any performance loss but I havent been really pushing it once I heard the noise last night. Also the heat shields were taken off already when I bought the car. Would a engine code pop up if it was a engine knock? it is a 2003 coupe

 

crazy question .. but whats your current oil level look like ???

 

I checked it this morning after i let it sit for 6 hours to make sure the oil level wasnt low its more to the full side, i did just get a oil change done about two weeks ago maybe a little less. I just have no idea why it is doing it, id understand if it was knocking at idle or when i have it in neutal but it doesnt.

 

Fuel dampeners?

Fairly common issue. My G35 has done this since pretty much new. Light knock at idle, goes away when I rev up. Nothing when in drive, driving around.

I think I noticed it around 40K miles. I have 160K now and it's unchanged, but still there
