New car

What's up guys, so I'm 17 and looking for a first car, I've been driving for several years and have driven fast cars and slow cars alike, my current ride is a 2000 camry which is getting boring and is my parents. anyways I planned on buying a mustang gt, but they are super over priced in my area for the models I like, so I've been looking at some g35 coupes. I want an 04 and up with the six speed, how much should I be willing to pay? and how much horsepower do they have stock? I've been getting mixed results, thanks! - Mig

Hey Mig!

The 04 Coupes are rated at 280HP for both the 5AT and 6MT.

The 05 and 06 6MT only were rated at 298HP as they were the RevUp motors.

Pricing varies. The 5AT generally will be slightly cheaper than the 6MT.

I would suggest looking into the differences of the 04, 05, and 06.

05-07 will generally cost more as they had the newer interior.

The 06-07 had the new exterior with projectors, new front styling, etc.

Hope this helps!

New car

Thanks a ton Ali! I have found a few that I'm going to look at, my favorite is an 05 that has a custom paint job (nothing special, just pearl white) and of course with the manual tranny, priced at 8k. The owner has been super cool in telling me a bunch about the cars history and all. and of course the more ponys the better haha so I'm trying to get tje revup motor, any common problems? I've heard piston rings leak oil? How common is that?

No problem!

They do have oil consumption problems but varies with each car.

Not to familiar with the revup honestly as I have the standard DE in my 04X Sedan.

Compression tests may tell the story honestly but it depends on how the car itself. Some may consume alot, others may consume non at all.

Best way is to have an independent Nissan Specialist look over the car and tell you what needs work and what is good on the car.

These cars will last a very long time so long as it is regularly maintained.

Spend as much time as you need when searching for the right car. One that is always maintained and serviced, does not consume oil, etc.

One thing I have noticed is that the 04 with the DE generally will have less consumption problems than the 05-07 with the Revup 6MT. That is something I have noticed while browsing the forums but each car is different. Definitely take your time and do plenty of research. It will help you out in the long run!

Hope I didn't confuse you lol.

Lol no you've done a wonderful job explaining things, plus I've had no life the last week or two looking up everything I can about these cars, honestly I'm just looking for a fun car that won't be insanely unreliable that'll last for a while, which is why I shied away from buying a mustang. btw, what does DE mean? I've seem people use that term a lot and haven't figured it out

Awesome! Also, take a look into the different packages that come with these cars.

The different interior premium packages, sport package, etc.

The 03-04 Sport I believe came with Brembo Brakes 4 Piston Front and 2 Piston Rear.

Clutch replacements are a big thing as well. If the last owner recently replaced the clutch, you are good to go. If the clutch is about to go, the replacement cost can be a bit costly depending on the shop. Generally in the 1K+ range from what I have seen.

This forum has answered all of my questions about anything and highly encourage reading everything there is to know to be ready when it comes time for your G.

Any questions, feel free to ask!

Sweet, and the one I'm interested in is supposedly the sport package, the clutch was replaced a few thousand miles ago and has brembos, if my budget is 8 - 9k Is it going to be possible to find a decent ride? my birthday is mid September and I'm trying to get myself a fun present this year, haha

Honestly, it depends on the location you are in and going market in the area. I have seen the 04 6MT Coupes go for 8.5-11K depending on condition and mileage.

You will have better luck luck with Private Party when it comes to finding it in your price range. Be sure to find one that has been regularly serviced and well maintained.

Often with dealers, not saying all, but some may have gotten the exterior and interior cleaned but mechanically, it needs work or has some sort of problem with something.

Once went to a dealership looking for a sedan. Saw this 04 Twilight Blue fully loaded for 7.5K with 80K miles. Was really clean. Im talking brand new clean. Problem? Leaking from rear main seal. Didn't know of the cost at the time to fix.

Keep on the lookout. I have seen a lot of great deals for these cars so you will definitely find yours in due time.

Yeah. I'm honestly in no huge rush, and I'd rather have it be mechanically sound and a little dusty on the inside than the other way around

Please keep in mind, we dont actually run 298/280 horsepower. We are actually around 230-240 range to the wheels.
03-05, you get some sexy brembo brakes that are freaking awesome
06-07, you get sexy projector headlights and even sexier taillights, you also could find a deal where they have oem 19" rays which are quality as well.
I wouldnt pay more than 10k for any g35, depending on the mileage of course.

Please go 6mt, 5at is boring
