Do you have a Z-tube or other modified/aftermarket intake or plenum spacer?

I'm assuming you aren't the original owner of this car though... correct?

A Z-tube and/or intake plenum spacer would never get noticed by the inspection/smog test, so it's possible the previous owner put them in and you never noticed. The Z-Tube is an OEM Nissan part from the same motor but is just used on a Nissan 350Z instead of G35's. It looks OEM to all but the absolute hardcore G35 enthusiast. Nobody would notice a plenum spacer either since it mostly looks like the same as the valve head and is covered by your plastic engine cover for the most part.

I'm just wondering if maybe a plenum spacer might have something to do with this noise you're experiencing.
