Thumping noise
None my car is bare stock tough doing any upgrades living here in Cali with smog checks and star certification and what not. Near future would like to add a nice bolt on exhaust system was thinking Borla or the Nismo system want a mid roar nothing ricer you know what I mean.

A Z-tube and/or intake plenum spacer would never get noticed by the inspection/smog test, so it's possible the previous owner put them in and you never noticed. The Z-Tube is an OEM Nissan part from the same motor but is just used on a Nissan 350Z instead of G35's. It looks OEM to all but the absolute hardcore G35 enthusiast. Nobody would notice a plenum spacer either since it mostly looks like the same as the valve head and is covered by your plastic engine cover for the most part.
I'm just wondering if maybe a plenum spacer might have something to do with this noise you're experiencing.
I'm assuming you aren't the original owner of this car though... correct?
